hey all, just something i'm curious about - Whenever i get drunk then take some speed, i never get a hangover the next day, also once i've had the speed i can slam down the drinks and they seem to have little effect. Does anyone have a reason why i don't get a hangover from the alcohol (even if i've had massive amounts)??? because if i don't have the speed i get really bad hangovers. Thanks.

I can't explain exactly why you wouldn't get a hangover, apart from the fact that maybe the speed is causing you to stay up longer and in the process you are drinking lots of water, which is good for avoiding hangovers a drunk person can manage to stay awake long enough to drink the proper amount....

However, as Big Trancer and Co have stated many times, I'd say its not the best combination as your mixing a stimulant with a depressant and chances are you'll drink far more than you would normally because the amphetamines, stimulant would mask the effects of the alcohol depressant and vice versa.. This would explain why you notice yourself drinking so much too! :)

Gidday :)

Good post kwiksand! A bit of reiteration, a little to add...

Alcohol is a central nervous system (CNS) depressant and speed (usually methamphetamine) is a CNS stimulant... To a certain extent, the effects cancel each other out when combined. This isn't a precise science - there's no way you could say "oh, i'll have one beer and two lines, perfect balance!" but it is a commonly reported experience. While you feel you can throw back more and more beers, the truth is your body can probably handle less than when you're only drinking. You'll get dehydrated faster, your brain and liver have more to deal with and while you might not feel the effects of the additional alcohol, rest assured it is still taking it's toll on your body.

Think of combining speed and alcohol as driving a car with one foot on the accelerator and the other on the brake.

As far as I know there is no pharmacological reason for speed preventing a hangover. Maybe it's got to do with your behaviour when you take speed? As kwiksand suggested, perhaps you stay up longer... Meaning most of the alcohol would have passed through your system by the time you crash.

When you drink... do you just drink one same drink or you mix many different drinks?

Because I find if I stick with one type of drink, like start drinking with vodka and finish the night with vodka, no other drinks or mixes, I never get hangovers, maybe just feel bit groggy for 30-45mins, which a good cold shower usually does the job. Even I have couple of lines, and still feel fine, maybe its because I usually drink a lot of water before I go to bed.

But if I mix drinks and I just end up with a hell of a awful hangover.

Cheers, Urbie :D

yeah drink water b4 u go 2 bed, it does wonders, altho im usually so drunk and tired by the time it nears bed time i forget...

i was thinking of buildin a flashin neon sign on my door saying <flashing>"DRINK WATER U DRUNK!!!" </flashing>

never got round 2 it :(

I've never understood the "don't mix drinks" thing... isn't alcohol alcohol regardless of what it's in?
Although, I have heard that light spirits like vodka produce less hangover than the brown spirits... any thoughts?

and yeah... on the rare occasions I mix meth and alcohol I tend to stay up later at the end of the night and drink water...

A (probably stoopid) question to the knowledgeable people: Could meth speed up your body processing the alcohol?

Hehehe I think the "don't mix drinks" rule-of-thumb is implanted in the public psyche simply because when you switch from mixers to beers to whatever it just makes it harder to count how many standard drinks you've had... i.e., you fall over after awhile.

drwhatwhat said:
i've always found that i could drink like a fish after a few lines of speed, in fact almost superhuman drinking powers, good if you want to drink a mate under the table.

That's not very fair..

If there was ever a proper drinking competition set up I'd hope they introduced drug testing... Drinking can be good an honest, but your cheat like the chinese olympic swimmers! :)

Just a warning: Both alcohol and speed will dehydrate you singularly, if you take them together and don't take care to rehydrate before you go to bed, you will wake up with a glass-jawed brain-ache of a hangover. IMHO extra dehydration significantly exacerbates hangovers.

maybe its because the amphetamines "speed" up your whole system, maybe making the liver work at a higher rate than normal, it could be because you drink more, i know when i take speed and drink, i get a really dry mouth and end up buying a couple of bottles of water throughout the night, when i normally wouldn't.

Thanks for your replys guys. Well i mixed the two again last night (approx 2 points of pure speed & heaps of grog, including shots of scotch and vodka) & had no water at all and i feel sweet as today. I'm thinking maybe the reason i didn't get a hangover is because i didn't get any sleep - would this make sense?
Note also that if i have a big night on just grog i always get bad hangovers.

Keep thrashing your body with the old booze / whizz routine and if done properly, you'll get your hangover alright.

The worse thing will be that you wont be able to sleep it off...
