Why no Grapefruit Juice with Benzos?

Recently given a script for 10mg Valium. On the bottle is printed in big bold letters: "Do Not Consume this Medication with Grapefruit Juice."


Why? Is it gonna send me into some benzo seizure or something?

Noo this is because grapefruit juice prolongs how long the meds will stay in your system

So if one is prescribed this medication and takes it everyday and drinks grapefruit juice everyday the medication may build up in your system to dangerous levels.

Even though its hard to overdose on benzos it could have some other harmful effects i suppose

Youd have to drink alot of grapefruit juice for multiple days and consume benzos everyday though im guessing

Grapefruit juice can intensify the effects of diazepam (and alprazolam)

Yes it's used as a potentiater for a lot of drugs as it's a cytochrome inhibitor. Works for some opioids and benzos and prolongs the overall effect by slowing down the metabolism.
