Why is the oral BA of benzos so high?

Given that they aren't usually water soluble, why don't they need to be dissolved in oil like thc?
 
Your body can absorb both water soluble and insoluble molecules. THC does not need to be dissolved in oil to be consumed, it just needs to be activated through heating before consumption and a simple way to do this is heating it in oil or butter.
 
Sorry I didn't realize that I was posting in ADD as activation of weed is mostly laymans terms.

THC-COOH (a carboxylic acid) as present in marijuana needs to be decarboxylated to THC.
 
Or rather, the decarboxylated molecule is absorbed far more efficiently in the gut. ETOH-based extraction of cannabinoids for oral dosing, prepared without heating, works just fine, albeit slightly less efficiently.

it's possible the answer to this question is not known

BA is just a clinical measurement. You draw blood, measure concentration, calculate and publish results.
 
Benzos are very fat soluble, hence why they're just used as freebase. Your body adsorbs them no problem.
Not to be picky, but I'm pretty sure you meant "absorb" and not "adsorb." Two very different things.
 
That's interesting that you guys say that cannabis needs to be heated to assist absorbtion because the only time I've ever eaten cannanbis and got high from it was by simply eating it without cooking in butter, oil, alcohol etc. Eating it on an empty stomach worked well for me.

...and the answer to the benzo question is: Don't take such an evil drug!

Since valium is highly protein bound it seems that should lower the BA but it doesn't. I've never found insufflation to be ineffective either and rectal availability must be high hence the suppository version of valium for seizure episodes. So is oral really that big of a difference? Since the body has lipids all over it and each cell is encased in a lipid barrier I guess that's where the OP's "oil" is--you need not add any from an outside source. The drug can slip right in and assrape your bzd sites on your GABAa receptors.

you do not have to heat it to get high
 
As I understand it, you do not have to heat marijuana to decarboxylate it, you just have to dehydrate it. Even dried marijuana purchased on the street typically isn't fully dried, which is why even dried marijuana needs to be dehydrated. Desiccant will heatlessly activate your weed.

I actually read that heat isn't necessary on the Cannabis Culture website, however they subsequently removed the little portion of the article that said that when I checked the link some time later! So maybe they determeined that to be false and that heat really is necessary. But I'm gonna contact them and find out what the deal is. I have a hard time believing that heat "activates" weed. The idea that it simply needs to be stripped of all moisture sounds a little more solid.

This is getting OT, make a new thread if you want to discuss this and try to offer some references

The high bioavailability is due to the lipophilicity of the drug (easy penetration through BBB) and poor ability of the body to metabolize/excrete the compounds
