Why is Oxycontin more popular than other opioids. I.E. Dilaudid , Suboxone

Dilaudid, Yes. Suboxone, Not so much.

Oxycodone is more popular cause its prescribed more often than Dilaudid. And price is usually a determining factor too, when other opiates/oids are too expensive for purchase.
 
Oxycodone is WAAY more user friendly, it can be taken orally, nasally, and other ways. Hydromorphone on the other hand is really only useful if you IV, (imo, and many others) It just isnt as bioabalible as OC. Suboxone on the other hand has zero recreational use imo, only good for getting off opioids/opiates, and I dont even think it does a good job at that.
 
I think that its probably so prevalent because it was pushed SO hard by Purdue Pharma representatives when it initially released. I was talking to my Suboxone doctor about the release of OxyContin and what its initial impact was.

The impression I received was that it was received well by patients and he saw a slight increase in patients over the year that it was initially released. Apparently the people promoting the drugs to the physicians in his office were also very pushy with the material.

So I think that its so popular because of how common it is. Vicodin is also pretty common and I believe it is the most widely prescribed analgesic out there.
 
oxies are damn good thats why! dilaudid is pretty weaksauce compared.

20mgs of oxy with no tolerance makes you feel very very euphoric, where a similar dose of dilaudid wouldnt be so great (im not saying 20 mg of dilaudid, just an equal dose based on dilaudids doses)

hydromorphone is approx. 10x more potent than oxycodone. the two are in different leagues.
 
Yeah like a couple people said Oxycontin is probably prescribed more. I don't have any good hook ups these days but in my area I've heard of people talking about Oxys on a few occasions, but I never heard anyone talk about Dilaudid.
 
I think a lot of it might have to do with the reputation oxycontin gained with all of the negative press coverage of its abuse. Having the media tell everyone this drug is really powerful and available everywhere is like free illicit drug marketing!

have you ever done dilaudid? cuz thats definately not tru....id rather boot dilly's than oxy any day
 
Suboxone would FLOOR me for 6+ hours, when i had little to no opiate tolerance, a 2mg bump/plug would make me nod, feel euphoric, and itch like crazy, for a long period of time, and i would wake up feeling GREAT if i dosed early enough, if i dosed after 6pm, id wake up at 6am completely ill.
 
Oxycodone has incredible Bioavailability, lending an equally incredible high to the user. So many great opioids like Morphine and Hydromorphone have poor BA (unless IV) and simply require much higher doses, where Oxycodone packs that punch and less is required to acheive desired results. Also, I think Oxycodone's high intranasal BA has a lot to do with it as well, as it is by far the most effective opioid I have used intranasally, and people love to insufflate their opioids.=D

Yup.

High dose in a single pill, high ba when snorting, and commonly prescribed. Perfect storm that created a whole new generation of iv heroin users. Ha.
 
I think pills in general are popular because people are fucking retarded. Did people just wake up one morning and say: "Hey, I know what would be a GREAT idea. I think I'm gonna shell out $$$$$ for pills, even though $ in heroin would do exactly the same thing."

Even my dealer is a fucking idiot. He will swallow ten 10/660 vicodin all at once with no qualms whatsoever. But he wouldn't touch a bump of H if his life depended on it. Cuz he done seen wat dat shit do ta peoples.

I can't believe I'm putting that fuck-tard's kids through college.

i have never plugged. i have a very low opiate tolerance. i have a suboxone. i dont have a needleness syringe. i dont really wanna buy one. since suboxones are mae for sublingual use, can you just put a half a pill or less of one up there and let it dissolve on its own?
 
^^why not just put it under your tongue? you have a very low tolerance, you will feel it, but thats not what this thread is about...
 
Because Oxy Contin is everywhere and it comes in small pills that are very potent(or small amount of powder)
I agree with phrozen, a perfect storm creating the generation of excess. A whole new breed of junkies altogether. Scary, but true. I know I've been a part of the Oxy Contin epidemic for several years now
Also I think people feel safer doing pills(rather than heroin) because it is a known cut made in a laboratory. Like people would rather do a bunch of ritalin or adderal than getting a 100x better buzz by just doing methamphetamines

My DOC has been Oxys for the past several years, probably because dope isn't that available here. Just out of curiosity, if someone has a tolerance to opiates(say 160mg IV or 320mg snorted of oxy) what kind of dosage would be sufficient for some heroin?
