The topic reminded me of this Salon article, which is probably somewhat relevant. I can't cite any evidence but I have a feeling that the cultural stigma around drug use acts more strongly against women than against men. Considering women are already faced with unfair social/career hurdles, there's less incentive to add another to the mix.

But couldnt it be that other women are the ones who would judge them and not so much the men?

The "why" aspect is the interesting one, though, isn't it?

I think the explanations would be similar to those of disproportionate suicide and addiction rates. Gender role differences like the fact that males are more likely to engage in risky behaviors

It comes from both sides. Think of couples in which one does drugs and the other does not, I know a handful of guys I would call stoners that are dating girls who won't touch drugs, though I don't recall ever meeting a couple where the girlfriend was the only one who did drugs. I know that's anecdotal and my experience can't be extrapolated into a reliable statistic, but I think it does highlight something in the way we view drug use and gender.

One main reason I use psychedelics is because for me they enhance the aesthetics of just about everything - music, art, literature, nature, etc. Generally most women I've known don't have as much an appreciation for or don't ascribe much significance to aestheticism, or at least, when I think of the people I know for whom this is a 'big deal', they are nearly always men, and this unrelated altogether to drug use.

^ Well I think bunnyhentman nailed it in her response above.....when a guy gets fucked up, he doesn't have to worry so much about being taken advantage of.

For those of us with hips like J'Lo this isn't the case.

You're far more likely for males to be bragging how trashed they got at the pub/got baked etc than a girl would! That's not very lady like anyways.
