I'm not an alcoholic and do not use/ like alcohol that much. But when I do I can down a pint of vodka and wake up with no issues. Yesterday I drank 2 pints of vodka with no hangover. I understand hangovers have to do with vitamin and water depletion. I do have a good diet but take no precautions when I do drink. Does genetics play a role or what? Because everyone I know gets s hangover just from just drinking beers ...

some docs agree that genetics may have a role in your tolerance to certain things or if you are gonna be prone to be addicted to certain things
funny thing is my dad is an alcoholic and so am i
why sometimes they ask you at the docs office somtimes if anyone in your family mother father has ever been an addict or ever been addicted to alcohol or other shit
but tolerance can be determined by a lot of things there is no one thing to say hey this is why you can handle alcohol more than someone else
guess consider that a good thing??

I didn't get my first real hangover until I had been drunk a couple of dozen times. I would wake up and feel a little sluggish and dehydrated, sure, but I had no idea what a real hangover even was. I could kill a fifth of liquor, not hydrate and wake up feeling fresh. I haven't the slightest idea of why this was the case, but it was. Now I get hangovers from drinking anything over about 8 drinks in a sitting, with adequate hydration throughout.

do you get drunk and stay drunk? or after awhile your buzz goes away?
maybe you are metabolizing the alcohol faster than everyone else
at one point i would drink a shit ton no water or gatorade and i couldnt stay drunk drinking maybe 5 beers + after an hour or 2 i would be sober again and no hangover
other times i would drink less than 5 beers and wake up with a shitty hangover

What I've never understood is why for the first 6 years of drinking I only got ONE hangover ever and other than that I didn't get hangovers until I was around 24.

I started drinking at age 18 and went to college from age 19--24 and the only time I got a hangover was one time at 23 when I drank a lot and then had to sleep on a hard wood floor cause all the beds were taken so I barely slept.

Then as you can imagine I didn't sleep well and woke up hungover.

Other than that, I would get drunk 3 nights in a row every weekend Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday night and NEVER got a hangover even from drinking like 12 drinks or more and it could be beer, liquor of all kinds, wine, whatever.

Now I'd never DREAM of even getting drunk two nights in a row cause I always feel like shit and need the next night and day to recover.

At age 24 I started getting hangovers though and since then if I get drunk I usually have one.

Not sure why aging made me get hangovers more, I guess when you are younger you are more resilient in a lot of ways, but most people would consider one's mid 20s the prime of their life and yet that's when I started getting them.

It's called age. It seems the majority of the posters are relatively young, in there 20's.

Age is /can be a major factor in hangovers. I was invincible in my 20's and a little into my 30's. Now, I'm north of 35 and cant do shit like I used to. I think part of it is simply maturity. I think genetics may come into play later in life. There are plenty of reasons and possibility's. I have found that having a drink, followed by a water and or Gatorade, then another drink etc, etc, allows me to drink like almost as much as I want. The next day I may feel a little dim, but no hangover. As usual, your mileage may vary.

Vodka is also a purer alcohol than the browner liquors. I believe the transparency of the alcohol is a factor.

I did once procure a bottle of grain alcohol from a state liquor store. The stuff was 95% alcohol 190 proof. It tasted like water, and gave absolutely no hangover. I did however smoke a two gram hooter with some grain alcohol, and tripped.

I used to be the same way. The more frequently I drank, the more I started to get hangovers. Then I went through a period of time junior year of high school where me and all my friends got into 4loko and that's when I first started to really get them. Then as I aged we started cracking 40s. Nothing is worse than malt liquor hangovers, be it hurricane, camo, colt 45, or steel reserve. Now, every time I drink anything besides classic hard A like Jack or Hennessey, or IPAS, I get a vicious hangover. And I've also grown to notice the more frequent I drink, the worse my hangovers tend to get. (Once a month vs 4/7days a week) so I think it has something to do with the condition your liver is in. Not getting hangovers early indrinking careers is common, so it's possible you have just been taking care of your body in between drinking sessions and never accumulated any serious damage.

I'm 22 and get bad hangovers from liquor and beer, anxiety and headaches the next day like hell. But I do get drunk like 4 days a week and abuse benzos when I get the chance. Blah :/
