This happens with many drugs for me but particularly kratom. I've lowered my dose a lot, and it seems to happen less frequently but still occurs. It happened to me today.
I took my 5 gram dose of kratom for the day. It came on like normal, actually pretty strong, and at the one hour mark, it began to peak - then suddenly all the mental effects went away, leaving only side effects like a tense neck and irritability. Both the mental stimulation and opioid euphoria just collapsed in a matter of seconds. When I was taking high doses of kratom, upwards of 15 grams at a time, this would seemingly happen every other day however it happens from time to time now too, just less often. It happens independently of hydration, food, or supplements.
I go from the peak to nearly sober in seconds. It's incredibly frustrating. Taking more never helps and I don't want to anyway. My kratom for the day is basically wasted.
I've had a very similar thing happen with mdma before, but only upon redosing and even then it only happened once.
What could be causing this? Downregulation of the receptors?
