I am quite aware that it relaxes ones mind but what chemicals in the brain does it work on to calm muscle tension and even to a degree my Tourettes induced body tics. I would also be interested anyones experiences with either really bad muscle tension and or Tourettes' and than MJ calming both down.
Thanks. Also keep in mind I am newbie and very pleased as I was really into opiates and this literally was a "saving grace" to a degree.

Cannabis contains a couple of muscle-relaxing cannabinoids, which help with MS, epilepsy, and simple muscle spasms. The weird thing is that after getting really high on a high-THC, low-CBD strain (sativa), my muscles, especially like leg muscles, would sometimes twitch. GABA would be one mechanism of action, and from what I understand cannabis can actually reduce GABA, explaining anxiety and spasms in certain people, but for others it helps? Maybe it's a u-shaped response curve, where low doses help but high doses can hurt?

As with opiates, this paradoxical increase is explained by the fact that the dopaminergic neurons in this circuit do not have CB1 receptors, but are normally inhibited by GABAergic neurons that do have them. The cannabis removes this inhibition by the GABA neurons and hence activates the dopamine neurons.

This link implies that it is indeed an increaser of GABA.
