Why do prolific posters 'disappear' when they become mods?

Compare and contrast the experience of taking a dump in a toilet already cleaned for you by someone else, versus taking a dump in a toilet you have just finished cleaning yourself.

There's also the fact that you feel as though you have to think really, really hard about every word you write, because your UniformStatus marks you out as an Ambassador for the SchoolSite. (You might need to ask an older person .....)

when you're not a moderator, you have 1 task. to post. when you are a moderator, you have several duties, which takes away from your prolific posting.

it's kinda like a computer. if you run 1 program, it's really fast. when you run several programs, the processing power is shared and each program becomes slower.

i used to post 20-25 posts a day in bdd and od. when i started moderating, that dropped drastically. when i took two forums, that dropped even more. when i joined senior staff, my posting, especially posts specifically aimed at hr diminished to a level which i have to confess, i am disappointed of. you have to scan every thread, edit posts, unapprove posts, report spam, participate in staff discussion, etc. in the greater scheme of things you are contributing just as much to the forum. but if that specific aspect is important to you as a staff member it does hurt a little bit.

I liked the way you explained that, baooozs.

I think it may just be a coincidence. There are some moderators who haven't disappeared n are still around. Maybe for some , they may take a break, as some posters have expressed, it must be a lot of pressure especially moderating a sub-forum like EADD where there's a lot of different posters n so on.
