Why do "gangstas" hold their pistols sideways?

This woman is badass and got it right. The only thing is that she should be willing to do it even if she had no kids.

Okla. Woman Shoots, Kills Intruder: 911 Operators Say It's OK to Shoot
Jan. 4, 2012
By KEVIN DOLAK and RYAN OWENS via Good Morning America

A young Oklahoma mother shot and killed an intruder to protect her 3-month-old baby on New Year's Eve, less than a week after the baby's father died of cancer.

Sarah McKinley says that a week earlier a man named Justin Martin dropped by on the day of her husband's funeral, claiming that he was a neighbor who wanted to say hello. The 18-year-old Oklahoma City area woman did not let him into her home that day.

On New Year's Eve Martin returned with another man, Dustin Stewart, and this time was armed with a 12-inch hunting knife. The two soon began trying to break into McKinley's home.

As one of the men was going from door to door outside her home trying to gain entry, McKinley called 911 and grabbed her 12-gauge shotgun.

McKinley told ABC News Oklahoma City affiliate KOCO that she quickly got her 12 gauge, went into her bedroom and got a pistol, put the bottle in the baby's mouth and called 911.

"I've got two guns in my hand -- is it okay to shoot him if he comes in this door?" the young mother asked the 911 dispatcher. "I'm here by myself with my infant baby, can I please get a dispatcher out here immediately?"

The 911 dispatcher confirmed with McKinley that the doors to her home were locked as she asked again if it was okay to shoot the intruder if he were to come through her door.

"I can't tell you that you can do that but you do what you have to do to protect your baby," the dispatcher told her. McKinley was on the phone with 911 for a total of 21 minutes.

When Martin kicked in the door and came after her with the knife, the teen mom shot and killed the 24-year-old. Police are calling the shooting justified.

"You're allowed to shoot an unauthorized person that is in your home. The law provides you the remedy, and sanctions the use of deadly force," Det. Dan Huff of the Blanchard police said.

Stewart soon turned himself in to police.

McKinley said that she was at home alone with her newborn that night because her husband just died of cancer on Christmas Day.

"I wouldn't have done it, but it was my son," McKinley told ABC News Oklahoma City affiliate KOCO. "It's not an easy decision to make, but it was either going to be him or my son. And it wasn't going to be my son. There's nothing more dangerous than a woman with a child."

Because that's how O-Dog held it from Menace II Society, and he was Americas worst nightmare young, black, and didn't give a fuck

I don't see what's odd about it, but you really got a gun or you just jokin? I think more women should learn to carry and shoot honestly. It's not like self protection should only apply to men. Especially if you got kids and are home alone. Only thing is you gotta be ready to use it in a life and death situation, because any hesitation in a self defense situation could either mean you not shooting in time, or the intruder potentially taking your own gun away from you. Sadly that does happen.

I was being sarcastic, I know how to use my gun properly. Thank god I've never had to use it.

Perp ?!?!

I thank dis bitch is 5/0

Haha yea right now "dis bitch" is just downing some coffee and donuts.

Judging by your grammar "dis"-this "5/0"-police. I'm starting to believe that your just a teeny bopper. Go to school Hun.

The original question: why they hold their guns sideways: "Presenting" Presenting is an animal response to a percieved threat. you see it when these individuals approach each other, holding their arms up spayed outward, making themselves appear larger and more intimidating. seen in all the great apes, gorillas, orangutangs, ect.
It's stupid because it invites a "stovepipe", the last fired cartridge, empty, is trapped in the ejection port by the slide's return. Out of the gunfight. But hey, you looked cool!

I think the explanation is pretty simple: A few directors decided to use it in film because it looks "different", and because it does its popularity (at least onscreen) spread. Probably the same reason that after Blade, there was a solid decade that you couldn't have an action movie without a swordfight, even if everyone in it had access to firearms.

I really doubt on the streets 'gangstas' hold their guns sideways lmao. Holding your gun sideways makes it easier to jam and also you are not properly aiming when your holding the gun sideways, that's why guns have sights!

Like a few other people have posted it's more in movies, cd covers and so on, just a fad.

I believe the whole sideways act has to do with style. They already have the baggie clothes, odly tilted hats, and gold chains. Might as well top it off by shooting your gun sideways right? Those gangster hipsters.

Personally I think it's more gangsta to hold your gun upside down. People that hold it sideways are just soft.

its not even about aiming properly, most "gangstas" as OP calls them just want to shoot guns for any reason

they dont really care if they hit anyone, thats why some 7 year old playing hopscotch usually gets killed instead

its a power trip, and considering these types of shooting happen in the blink of an eye, most people arent really thinking

"better aim my gun properly"

Prodigy's book that I read not too long ago (which is a good book btw) talks about a confrontation where one of the guys pulled out a gun and dropped it because he was so nervous. lulz
