Why do atheists only seem to go after the Judeao-Christian religion?

You obviously have no idea what I meant. "It is said that intelligent people can discuss things they do not believe in.", I never once implied that we couldn't "discuss" what we do not believe in. I said that your argument that the Christian God figure is immoral, is a lost argument; specifically because the basis for your argument does not pertain to the Christian belief system. P equals W because lemon, is not a truthful opposition.

My arguments always pertain to the Christian system when Christianity is part of the O.P. or the issue at hand.

Tromps, I have an honest question. What, in your opinion, is the law that Jesus speaks of in Matt. 5:17?

Matt. 5:17 "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.

Tromps said:
It is true Jesus fulfilled the law. To keep this real short and simple as possible, the law in the commandments brought forth the knowledge of sin (Read Romans 7-8 ) and sin leads to death. However, the law in light of Christ Jesus (the Spirit of life) is freedom from the condemnation of sin by the law. This is because Christ accomplished what the law required of sin, by his death. Therefore, he was the fulfillment the law.

You mentioned that verse in another thread, and that was my response. ;)

You definitely don't understand what I said. Try not to be so condescending if you cannot properly grasp the concept they are explaining.

Well, I think that depending on how we define spirituality, the products and methods of science can inform one's approach to spiritual matters, and spiritual experiences can help guide and impassion scientific investigations.

The thing is, I haven't yet seen a satisfactory definition of this "spirit" and "spirituality" stuff.

Perhaps this will help explain the Christian type of spirituality.

Normal spirituality I would just call a good heart.

I think most atheists respond with the most venom about theism when they are proselyted or when they have rules imposed on them for theistic reasons. In Alabama that likely means all their full power screeds against theism are going to seem Christian specific. In Turkey they are going to seem Islam specific.

A presupposition of the question that started this thread is that all atheists are of a single mind. I think the group of people who identify as atheists are likely to have some things in common more often than theists, but only a little bit. Individual atheist organizations have positions and stances, but atheism does not represent some sort of hive mind.

But back to Christianity as more criticized by atheist than other religious groups, I can only really talk about the US. In the US there are over 2,000 Christian radio stations. If you are in a major TV market I bet there are a few Christian broadcast TV stations. No selection of cable TV or satellite is going to come without some evangelically oriented stations and EWTN for Catholics. Yet ever slightly critical sentiment expressed about Christians gets portrayed in Christian media and on Fox news as a wave of intolerance or a new persecution. I know there is real persecution in parts of the world. Not letting someone evangelize on the court house stairs or read from the bible in a high school commencement address is not persecution like people in Syria or Nigeria experience.

I think in BL terminology a lot of the perception that Christians are more criticized ought to be considered as likely being about the fact that Christians are most apt to have major butthurt about any sort of commentary. Xians demand a lot more deference from commentators in the US and in American fashion they get the same Bronx salute other demanders get. I do have anxiety about how muslims will be when they are less of a minority. For know though Christians are a large percentage of the population with considerable influence. Attempts to curtail critics by claiming they are unfairly targeted or persecuted are mostly ridiculous. Sorry for the butthurt, perhaps some salve and a comfy cushion.

to me militant-atheism is a complete waste of time and energy, it's basically a religion of non-belief. and they tend to support all types of degenerate shit just because they hate god.

i'm agnostic personally so i don't have any real anti-atheism agenda, i just see these people as generally negative and hateful. this is not to say religious people aren't negative and hateful, some are some aren't. i just think the percentage of these traits is much higher among atheists.

^Without wanting to be rude, I have to point out that you are simply revealing a lack of real thought on this issue because you are dismissing an entire group of disparate individuals of which you could only know a handful. I don't think there is any evidence of this:

...which is actually quite typical, Christian propaganda against atheism, that due to a lack of belief in a 5000 year old fairytale, evil and depravity will abound. Its nonsense. There is no evidence of that.

I am not a Christian and I do not believe in the god of most world religions but that doesn't mean I have no morals. I just happen to ascribe to my own morality.

See, those two statements are completely contradictory. And, again, you can have no proof or evidence that atheists are more likely to be "negative and handful".

I understand you entirely about you comments referencing militant atheism; it does seem illogical and pointless; but if you reflect on the way you, as an agnostic, have characterised these people, can you imagine what opposition they face from actual theists?

Good post. No butthurt here. God provides the ultimate salve and makes a nice snug cushion. ;)

Atheist do and who can blame them.

I am not an atheist but theists are anti-seekers of God and hide their idiocy behind faith. Faith, where the intelligent people cannot intelligently go. We will not put a big plug up out mental but holes the way literalists have.

Faith v/s Reason

Faith is a way for you to quit using your "God given" power of Reason and Logic, so you will believe doctrines that moral men reject as immoral.

The God of the OT says...“Come now, and let us reason together,” [Isaiah 1:18]

How can you reason with God when you throw away reason?

Religions, especially Christianity reply.

“Faith must trample underfoot all reason, sense, and understanding.”
“Reason is a whore, thegreatest enemy that faith has.”
Martin Luther “

This puts the rest of us in a position where reasoning with theist becomes impossible.

It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into.
Jonathan Swift

Literalism is an evil practice that hides the true messages of myths. We cannot show our friends that they are wrong through their faith colored glasses. Their faith also plugs their ears.

Here you are using Jesus as a butt salve. Why am I not surprised at those who will use their scapegoat whipping boy Jesus even as as butt salve.

Way to go Tromps.

Hmm. This has not been my experience.

Strange that you would say this when the vast majority of men have been religious men.

I have spoken to many atheist and was indeed one at one time and they cannot hate God as they do not believe in God.

You are either a liar or just too dumb to recognize this fact.

What they do hate is being told by the majority that they are going to hell just for not believing as believers do. Stupidly. Thanks to literal reading of scriptures. and myths.

That is the same theistic thinking that gave us the Dark Ages and Inquisitions. Think about what you are doing thanks to your literal reading of your myth.

im an "Atheist" i think? im not religios but dont that count for all religions? that i thought atheist was

I wonder why you have such a tendency to insult people in your responses Gnostic Bishop. No need to call someone "too dumb to recognize that fact" when they are giving a perfectly respectful response that comes from their own experience. Not everyone is going to agree with you, or indeed with anyone. People have different opinions, and you have to respect that. Or you should, I suppose you don't have to do anything.

I don't think he was saying that atheists hate god, I think he was saying he's noticed atheists tend to be hateful in general (I imagine towards those who are not atheists). I'm not sure I agree with his assessment entirely, but it's what he's noticed in his life.
