Why cubic centimeters?

Why is it that people always use cubic centimeters as the volume when they are talking about syringes? Why aren't milliliters good enough? Do people just feel fancy saying "cc's" instead of mls or are cubic centimeters superior when it comes to syringes for some reason? I don't use rigs but this is just something that has always perplexed me.

Probably because that's what it usually says on the syringe package. Jay is right of course, they are the same thing. BTW a cc/ml of water weighs exactly one gram.
