This is about the most powerful video I've found on this issue and I want to share it here at BL. So many of us feel we are weak or broken or at fault for being addicted and I have always thought that the reason we are is more emotional than physical. Please check out this video and I think you will agree and find some comfort. Take care everyone.

Someone actually sent this to me just the other day, I guess I should watch it... It was my friend's mom that died of an overdose too. We disagreed about the role of AA and addiction in his death, so I initially felt this was in that vein but I guess I was wrong.

It's why (for me) depression is so closely connected to my drug use. On days when my routine is different, like my day is filled with something that controls my attention (if it's not always enjoyable), my drug use is much less but I have no depressive or withdrawal symptoms.

I didnt watch the video yet, but based on the context of what you said....addiction is a seriously complex issue, including both physical (neurological) and emotional aspects which culminate into a devastating disease. Being able to understand addiction from multiple different views will hopefully further our research into ways of helping people cure this disease.

Wow. Really powerful. And very accurate. I just wish most politicians had even a shadow of empathy. Even in Portugal it was done out of political expediency, just happened to be the right answer (can't knock them for that, but shouldn't give credit where it's not due).

"I love you whether you're using or you're not. I love you whatever state you're in. And if you need me I'll come sit with you because I love you and I don't want you to be alone or feel alone.

And I think the core of that message: you're not alone, we love you; has to be at the core of whatever message we send to addicts..."

So very poignant.
