My question is, why are benzos abused?

I had been on Xanax for months for my panic attacks but I dont think their as enjoyable as opposed to taking opiates.

-They make me fall asleep
-They make me more empty-
-They make me more depressed/moody
-They make me feel like I was on an antihistamine like Benadryl...

All it was good for that it helped ease my anxiety, thats all. But they make me sleepy and dysphoric. The same effects that I feel from taking benzos are very much the same as taking Benadryl.

So why are benzos classed as Scheduled Class 4?

There are plenty of different benzos and exponentially more different people, so there's gonna be a broad spectrum of responses.

Benzos do have their place in helping those with severe anxiety and panic disorders if taken as directed. Trouble is, lots of people use them recreationally and find themselves with a huge tolerance. I read it here everyday where people use huge amounts, causing rebound anxiety, insomnia, addiction and all the problems that go with it. Benedryl (diphenhydramine) is an antihistamine and may help with sleep but doesn't have the same properties as a benzo.

They do not make me feel good. Like I posted, I almost feel like being on hardcore antihistamines...Xanax makes me sleepy and empty. The only reason I take them is for my painic attacks and sometimes for my explosive behavour. Usually take 0.75MG to 1MG. Not more.

As discussed before, just because they don't make you feel good doesn't mean they do the same thing to everybody else.

I'm going to close this thread. I fail to see what constructive harm reduction discussion can come from it, only speculation because different drugs to different things to different people. Most drug users will rank benzos less recreational than opiates (which answers your other question, why benzos are in DEA Schedule IV (C-IV).

PM me if you have any questions.

EDIT: ninja'd by NT.
Well, benzos are tools for most. There are a few that stand on their own as respectable intoxicants for some, but on the whole are best to be used sparingly and as a tool.
