Covid-19 Who's planning on getting a COVID-19 vaccine? (Poll)

It's only if you have experienced anaphylaxis from any of the ingredients in the vaccine, or from any vaccines in general, in the past. It's not like if you have a peanut allergy and have been in anaphylaxis before, it has any bearing on the vaccine.

I wouldn't be so sure. I mean I'm the last person to spread vaccine hysteria. If you have a history of anaphylaxis, you're going to be at risk of having it from the vaccine. It's highly unlikely that it'll be lethal or anything. But it is a greater risk to my understanding.

i feel like many people close to me are guilting me into getting one. But I don’t want it in all honesty. Quite frankly, I am young and healthy and don’t really fear covid.

I just trust my body’s own immune system to do a better job than a vaccine approved for emergency use. Im not some conspiracy theorist, I just have weighed the risks for myself and have decided I don’t want it.

i “trust in science” but good science needs lots of data and I’ll at least wait until we have more long term data

The point isn't for you, it's so you don't pass it to other people, basically so that down the line, someone doesn't get it who is vulnerable because you passed it on, even though it wasn't a big deal for you. I was never scared to get it myself, and I did get it, and it wasn't too big of a deal, though it sucked for a short while. If the only risk of it had involved risk to me, I wouldn't have changed much of anything about my lifestyle.

I understand your hesitancy, I used to share it, but losing several people to this who were older or more vulnerable, including some family, made me realize I should get it. That, and the fact that until there is sufficient herd immunity they're going to keep restrictions in place.

The vaccine isn't as rushed as people think either, it was based off of a SARS vaccine they were working on for a number of years.

Are there any risks to taking the vaccine while being stuck on Dope? I noticed no1 has really commented on that. Im in a really fucked up spot. I have COPD & initially when I got diagnosed with it I had no symptoms really in late December except i had chest pains. I tried so hard to get clean (off topic I know) by going to detox 3 times in a row and even tried to go to treatment the 3rd time. I go to treatment and a week in they have a huge Covid outbreak cuz the treatment center i went to wasn't testing anyone for covid to my horror! Their excuse was th0at every1 got tested at Detox: translation they didn't want to spend the money and they told us every1 was going to get it anyway!! I got discharged due to my COPD after being there 1 fucking week, I come home my fiance was still fucking using. I knew I was fucked. Now my COPD is advancing rather rapidly & I live with a lot of pain in my upper back due to my lungs. My theory is that the dope is hurting me bcuz I don't use needles I hate them so I snort my dope which goes to your lungs n i live in constant fear bcuz if i get covid i know im fucked. I would really like to quit but both my fiance and already took time off work at the beginning of the yr for this very reason! I went to detox/failed treatment n bcuz he has less time off from work than i did he chose to do subs at home took it too soon and fucking went into precipitated withdrawal n that was the end of that plan since he only had a week off. I tried really hard to stay clean around him but it was impossible for me w only 2 wks clean bcuz we live together so I failed and now im fucked.

I would really like to quit but both my fiance and already took time off work at the beginning of the yr for this very reason! I went to detox+failed treatment & my fiance tried a different approach bcuz he had less time off from work than i did, he chose to do subs at home bcuz he only had 1 wk off work. Well he took the suboxone too soon and fucking went into precipitated withdrawal n that was the end of that plan since he only had a week off. I tried really hard to stay clean around him when i got discharged from treatment but it was impossible for me w only 2 wks clean bcuz we live together so I failed and now im fucked. So now im seeing a Pulmonologist that wants me to take the vaccine but I've only taken 1 Flu shot in the past and it made me SO SICK! It gave me the worst flu I've ever had & I ended up in the hospital. My fiance tells me that this vaccine is completely different and that it won't make me sick bcuz the flu shot is different since they're injecting you w a flu strand but i have my doubts. First bcuz im on this shit & I read that they don't recommend even taking tylenol a couple of days before the shot, and secondly bcuz of the reaction I had when I took the flu shot. But given the fact that I have COPD & my fiance works at a hospital I feel should take it. Any thoughts? I've been looking on the net for anything relating to the vaccine and people who do opiates and I've found nothing!

If you have COPD I'd recommend getting a vaccine ASAP. The heroin shouldn't alter the side-effect profile of the vaccine or interact in any way.

I understand it isn’t for me.

That said, I likely will still not get it. The lockdowns were not for me but I did them anyway. And quite frankly, they nearly destroyed me. Substance abuse, depression, and suicidal thoughts from the loneliness. That was all for the “greater good”. But I still haven’t recovered. My mental health is manageable now but still at some of the worst it’s been. What does this have to do with the vaccine? Well, even though some things are for the good of others we still have to weigh our own personal risk. And the trauma that came with lockdown has me extremely weary of other things for the “greater good”. Social distancing and vaccines are obviously very different phenomena, but the thought is hard for me to get around.

I’ve been hearing that we may have to get another shot in 6-12 months anyways if the immunity wears off. I’d rather contract Covid and build my immune system that way, assuming I didnt already have it asymptomatically.

You can call me a shitty person, I won’t be offended, but I’m done with this narrative of coming together to beat Covid. First it was lockdown for a few weeks to build up hospitals and ventilators. Then it was stay locked down until positivity rates are low enough (whatever that means). Now it’s herd immunity. Yet I see in the news that even with mass vaccinations we still need masks and distancing

The goal posts keep shifting and at this point I’m choosing to simply quit the game

The risk is higher contracting the virus.

You can argue that nobody knows the long-term effects of the vaccine, but nobody knows the long-term effects of the virus either... so that argument is moot.

If the argument is moot then how is “The risk is higher contracting the virus” true?

I will rephrase it.

We already know there can be significant long-term effects of COVID-19. We don't know this about any of the approved vaccines that are being rolled out in the Western world. So, as far as we know, the risk is higher contracting the virus. There is currently no reason to assume otherwise.

You said you have to weigh the risks. You then said you'd rather build immunity by contracting a virus. Can you explain your thought process here? How did you go about weighing the risks and why did you conclude that the virus is safer?

So if we look at who has long term problems from Covid it’s generally folks with pre existing heart/lung conditions or those with immune deficiencies (among other things). Age is one of the biggest factors as well

I am 19 years old, I run 5-6 days a week, and eat a whole food plant based diet. I think I came into this with optimal health conditions, and therefore am not concerned

@thegreenhand

You didn't answer my question.

am not concerned

I understand that, but why are you concerned about being vaccinated?

People don't always know when they have pre-existing conditions. You will probably be fine, but there are young people who have gotten really sick and died... whereas there have been no significant complications from the approved vaccines other than anaphylaxis. Are you concerned about an allergic reaction or something else?

Ah my bad I thought your were asking why i wasn’t concerned about the virus.

I am concerned that is the first vaccine if it’s kind. I know that some scientists have been working on this for years, but I still would like human trial data before taking it myself. Nobody on this planet has gotten a vaccine and then waited a year to see what happens. Once we have some data about that, I’ll reconsider. The scientific method needs data, and I’m not convinced yet with the preliminary results we have

I also don’t like that the Pharma companies wanted to be free from liability before selling to the government.

As far as I'm concerned, this also applies to the virus.

Just look at measles.

Yes but we have data on Covid that is at least a year old at this point, though of course longer is better. And like I said long term effects are not of concern to me, given that I am not in any of the at risk groups

@thegreenhand

I understand being apprehensive about getting a vaccination. There is a lot of negative hype floating around. If you contract the virus, though, you might pass it on to someone else and they could pass it on to a dozen people... and so on, and so forth. Not getting vaccinated could cause deaths.

My brother is in his 40s. Lifelong alcoholic. Overweight. Chain smoker for three decades. He lives in a third world country that is riddled with COVID. He says he doesn't want to get vaccinated because the only one available over there is AstraZeneca and he is concerned about blood clotting. I haven't bothered trying to convince him otherwise, because he is as stubborn as a dead mule... If he was 19 years old, I admit that I would not be concerned about him.
