I'm a naturalist by nature so I have constant dissonance between what I know to be reality and what the Bible says. It's like two totally different ways of looking at the world but I can only do one at a time. Otherwise I start making things up in order to reconcile the two, which doesn't make any sense, and gets me nowhere. So at present I'm still struggling and have absolutely no unified theory of anything.
My problem with saying that God is just kind of out there, or we just assign to God all the stuff beyond our knowledge, space, and time, is that sooner or later we will make a technological discovery and define in real tangible terms something we used to assign to God. So to me there's something flawed in using the term God in that way. It seems if we define God by what we don't know, rather than define God as a personification as presented in the Bible, the meaning of God is completely vague and doesn't transmit the substance of God as being central to morality and ethics in human affairs. So, yeah, two totally different things.
