Which party to vote for for drug reform?

Greens. No question.

They are the only party that have proposed to decriminalise personal use in their manifesto.

I wish I had supported them now.

Although apparently the lib debs have some move towards a more progressive approach to cannabis use.

Not reform then
I just had a look through their manifesto for policies relating to drugs. Only mentioned twice where they say;
Drug dealing and trafficking will get mandatory life imprisonment. A new offence of Substantial Possesion of Drugs will meet heavy fines
So Reform are not looking at anything remotely progressive when it comes to drug laws.

Green are generally the most progressive with drug laws although I can't see much in their manifesto. Lib Dems have said they would allow the sale of cannabis but only low strength, no skunk. Tbh I like a bit of high CBD sativa landrace so I'm all for it.

It depends where you live as to whether the party you want have a chance to get an MP. A tactical vote to make sure the people you don't want can't get in is a good way to get as close as possible to your desired outcome.

http://gtto.co.uk/ is good if you want to make sure the Tories don't get in again, tells you based on your constituency who is the best vote to beat them.

Drug dealer getting life imprisonment haha. Such a stupid idea.

Its on the below under Reforming Drug Laws on page 41

Some summaries regarding cannabis policies and broader drugs policies are on this link

This is a quote from the Greens' manifesto:

Reforming drug laws
Elected Greens will push for the establishment
of a National Commission to agree an
evidence-based approach to reform of the UK’s
counterproductive drug laws.
Neither prohibition nor the policing of low-level
drug offences, especially cannabis possession,
have reduced use and consequently have had no
impact on the size of the criminal market or the
profits made by organised crime.
Elected Greens will therefore push to
decriminalise personal possession of drugs,
diverting people from the criminal justice system
towards support with addiction, housing and
employment, from health workers focused on
drug harm reduction This would free up hundreds
of thousands of hours of police time, which could
instead be invested in tackling other priorities
which benefit wider society.

How good is that?

In future they will get my support, based entitely on that bit of enlightened good sense and progressive policy making alone.

Although it helps a lot that they also stand for and propose a lot of other similarly good things.

Estimates from the polling data are that they may go from their 1 seat in the current parliament, up to a maximum of 4 once the votes have been counted. Although the uncertainty is such that they could get anything from 0 to 4 seats.

Yeh, they're full of shit like the rest of 'em mate.

Well I suppose that seeing as they don't stand any chance of winning an election over here at any time in the forseeable future, with that being the case, they are in a position to pledge to impliment all sorts of ideal and idealisitic things.

If their gaining control ever got closer to reality, then things may get watered down a bit.

I think they may actually be or have been in government in at least one European country, or at least a lot more of a sizeable and powerful party, so I should probably look into what their record actually is or was. If i cba that is..........I probably will do at some point.

Otherwise, I'll just optimistically and maybe naively pick up supporting them again regardless.

Yeah, another Gordon Brown, that will help England. The green party is similar to all the other parties, here in America, a waste of a vote.

The sad fact of the matter, is that anyone who WANTS a position of authority, is not the sort of person that SHOULD be in that role.

Whatever well meaning bullshit that they spout, they're only in it for themselves.

It's a conundrum, for which there is no answer.

Fuckin cunts, the lot of 'em.
That seems very philosphical, and also very cynical but idealistic at the same time.

I know what you mean though.

There are people who do such things for the sake of service and duty, rather than for the authority and power. But they'll probably be eaten alive in today's cut throat world. Look what the media did to Jeremy Corbyn for example. Destroying him despite the huge momemntum of grass roots support he built up.

He's just been re-elected as an independent in his North Islington seat. He appears to be a decent and principled guy and this must be recognised by his constituents, despite the media smear campaign. There seems to be extremely few people of that ilk in politics these days.

I think we should have something along the lines of what the LGBT community has and have a movement focused only on this issue, on our rights, on reform policies etc active at both national and international level.
