For bipolar this is what has worked for me and what im currently on.

1. Lamotrigine
I was on divalproex before i was put on lamictal and the lamotrigine has controlled my mood swings way better then the epival (divalproex) did. It does wonders for the rapid cycling, mixed states, depression, hypomania and full blown mania as well. Though i still have to take other meds to fully control the manic part.

2. Bupropion aka wellbutrin aka zyban
The only anti-depressant that really works for me without fucking with my moods and causing hypomania, mania or worse mixed states. Also helps my SAD so thats a plus.

3. Risperidone
Ive been on the atypical anti-psychotic merrygoround and besides olanzapine this is really the only anti-psychotic that works for me. Granted the only ones ive tried are seroquel, risperdal and zyprexa. I tried the old typical methotrimeprazine which is a phenothiazine and is pretty much the same as chlorpromazine but i only took it for nausea and sleep. I never took it in doses that would be used for mania cause i probably wouldnt wake up for a week. I can't afford zyprexa and the stupid insurance won't cover it for me so right now im stuck with risperidone. The side effects for me arent too bad at all unless i have to take more then 2mg's then i start to get hit with the zombie effect which kinda sucks to say the least.

4. Clonazepam for anxiety as well as mania
Ive been on this med for about 5 or 6 years and although ive been on a high dose for awile (ive been on 6mg's a day since about 2007 though i often only take 4mg's) the stuff still works as good as it ever did. So i guesss im lucky there. Without it i was a nervous wreck and could barely talk to anyone.

5. Zyprexa
The zydis form of this med is the best and fastest med ive tried that brings me out of a hypomanic, manic or mixed episode. I can be in a really awful mixed state and 10mg's to 20mg's (ive rarely had to take 20mg's) will bring me back down to normal in about 20 minutes or less. Also unlike seroquel or risperdal it does not make me drowsy or zombieish which is always nice. The only bad thing i can say about this med is the price :p

6. Cannabis
Ok not prescribed but it helps my moods alot. Indica strains of weed or hash work far better then mostly sativa strains. Calms me down and cheers me up abit. Also since i have chronic pain indica strains are what i need.
