Hello.
I have question which is probably still as relevant as it was 20 years ago.
As you know, most of people who are depressed and went to the doctor are being prescribed one of so many available antidepressants.
The first one u get is usually escitalopram or citalopram. But this is not that important.
When u were prescribed your first SSRi/SNRi/Atypical ( Brintellix or Remeron ), NDRi ( bupropion ), have your doctor also prescribed you benzodiazepine for the time since your antidepressant starts to be effective at reducing your depression and anxiety ?
And if yes, which benzodiazepine you were given ?
I want to know this because in my case, i was given alprazolam. And most of my friends or family members being on benzos were also put on alprazolam.
BUT my psychiatrist decided, that for me it would be the best option to take diazepam since now. No alprazolam, no other benzo - only and only diazepam, which is right now rarely prescribed anymore because they decided to provide diazepam mostly to hospitalized patients.
I asked him why is everybody prescribed alprazolam but i need to be prescribed more expensive diazepam instead. His answer was = After few days of taking diazepam, the buildup of its active metabolites in your body will provide much better and more stable anxiolysis, muscle relaxation and anti-seizure effects. If I prescribe you alprazolam, you will only get great anxiolysis right from the first dose, but u will need to take it much more often and even than it won't provide you the muscle relaxation and antiseizure properties like diazepam.
So now, i am the 1 in 10 people who is on diazepam and not on other benzos because my doctor consider diazepam as a superior option with benefit of easier tapering off of it.
Which benzos were prescribed to you and what is the general opinion about diazepam in your country ?
Eveywhere is the "bad one" alprazolam, but here where i am "the most abusable one" is diazepam. Like, why ?
Alprazolam was just ok for me and it was also much less expensive than diazepam.
