Going to see my doc soon and looking to get a benzo to help me with my acute performance anxiety but potentially something I could take throughout the day once I actually land a job. I noticed temazepam was by far better than alprazolam for my confidence and sociability when I used some before going to a party and my verbal fluency and lateral thinking abilities went through the roof and it actually increased sociability drastically (very smooth with the ladies), also (very important for a sales type role).

My concern with alprazolam is that it's primarily sedating and for me it decreases sociability, clonazepam even worse. I don't think my doc will proscribe me temazepam for this purpose but is there any other benzo like it that any of you know of for daily use that actually increases confidence and sociability vs. merely sedating you in order to decrease anxiety? My anxiety isn't too extreme but enough to really limit my performance in these types of situations. I just need something medium range acting that will give me that little boost of confidence and sociability.

None of them, benzos pretty reliably decrease functioning, just like being drunk at work isn't going to win you any favors.

All benzos are is sedatives, they don't magically inspire confidence that you don't have.

Maybe look into beta blockers (propranolol) if the physical symptoms of anxiety are troubling. But regular usage of benzodiazepines for your job is a Grade A retarded idea and will in 95% of cases end with you having a massive benzo addiction and no job...

You're better off using amphetamine or ritalin for those types of problems. The main problem with using benzos (and pretty much all other gabaergics) is rapid tolerance buildup which leaves you with all the side effects and none of the good effects. Then you have rebound anxiety that is way worse than the original problem to look forward to.

I beg to differ! They have inspired confidence in me just like in said example in my initial post. Not only has temazepam inspired confidence dramatically but it has also improved sociability dramatically including a "yearning for social interactions". Not only that, like I said, my verbal fluency and lateral thinking (ie. ability to come up with answers to questions on the spot and expand on those answers) was actually WAY better compared to me being sober which intuitively is mainly a result of my anxiety not getting in the way.

I would be willing to bet this this isn't the only benzo capable of such effects. I realize you are obviously in the school of thought that benzos are essentially never a good solution, but I was wondering which benzos are more apt to increase sociability with as little sedation as possible. The thing that you might not be getting is that I do have confidence in my abilities, but I am limited due to hyper-sensitive anxiety reactions to social performance situations. It's irrational, it's to a certain extent uncontrollable, it doesn't mean that I'm not confident in my abilities. Benzos allow my confidence and social abilities to shine through. This is why many people take them.

Okay, so on second thought I'm convinced that I can't use them long term for my job, so let me rephrase the question before I continue to get flamed:

So like I said my anxiety isn't that bad, but interviews are still REALLY tough for me, even when I'm prepared and actually feel like I would be a good fit for the job. What would be the best benzo (most sociability, least sedation) which would help to give me the effects I've described JUST for interviews so I could get my foot in the door? The problem with propranolol is the mental anxiety symptoms still limit my ability to expand on answers on the fly and in general portray a solid personality of myself. The problem with stims - even euphoric ones, is I used to do them a lot and now they cause way more anxiety type symtoms than they used too resulting in coming across too rigid and conveying very little personality.

Your doctor is the best person to ask this question to. We can't advise you what pill you need for your job's anxiety.
