Which Albums Have You Listened to the Most?

Another 13th floor Elevators fan 8o

the 13th Floor Elevators - You're Gonna Miss Me (1966)

I've loved them for many years, have you listened to Roky's later albums, the Evil one, Don't Slander me, well worth it. It's no wonder the Buthole Surfers helped him out in later years they took so much from his later sound.

I've got a copy of the film documentary they made a few years back, a real insight into his illness

tbh I don't know that much on their story apart from the mental illness & the weed bust.

Anything you recomend i'm more than happy to check out as I love their music, I first came across them during a trip.
It was this album my mate put on.

Easter Everywhere is by far the best album they made, the rest are cobbled together due to Roky being absent.

I'm a big fan of Roky Erickson's voice and he produced some interesting music once he finally got out of the mental institution although he continued to be unwell for many years.

More recently his brother took control of his affairs and with the help a many people ( the buthole surfers included) got him some proper treatment and he is now much improved.

The albums he made sounds way ahead of there time, The Buthole surfers sound owes much to him, he was clearly a very disturbed individual at the time which often makes for great music IMO.

The Elevators were a genuine psychedelic band, promoting the use of LSD as a route to a higher consciousness and always performed whilst tripping, they also invated the electric jug ( i'll leave you to look that up)

Lyrics like 'let me take you to D M T on my fire engine' might sound corny now but in Texas at the time they were skating on very thin ice, hence Roky getting locked up for having 1 joint.

I remember buying the special purple velvet edition of that when I was fifteen and it came out! Memories...

Compilations don't really qualify, but this is a conceptual affair, so I'm posting it anyway:

Outstanding.

Billed as 'The GG gig that could never be' (because most of his gigs ended in arrest), this iconic cassette (Cassette!) put together lots of scarce independent vinyl releases, interspersed with GG's inimitable stage patter, for example:

GG Allin said:
Hey, how many people here are in high school? Any high school kids here? Are you in high school? Are you teacher's pet? You're sure? I was, man. I used to fuck my teacher every night. I lost my virginity with her, man. She was fucking nice!

GG Allin said:
You wanna eat my shit? It's on my fingers for you. Alright, I like a little shit on my side. Makes me feel so good and smell so lovely. I love diarrhea. So much of it for you here!

GG Allin said:
Alright, I'm ignorant, but I like to fuck, I like to drink, I like to suck cock. Who gives a fuck?

GG Allin said:
Any girls from the audience wanna, uh, fuck our brains out?

As if that weren't enough, the choons! Oh my, the choons. You get all the early GG classics (when he was still writing catchy songs rather than just growling), like Hard Candy Cock, I Wanna Fuck Myself, Pissing On Cosloy, Sluts In The City, Tough Fucking Shit, Needle Up My Cock... the list goes on.

If nothing else, you can chart the progress of The Geege from bratty-voiced Stiv-Bators-wannabe to gravel-throated maniac, all to a soundtrack that you can't help but sing along to. What's not to love, huh?

ooh, copper blue. sammy, is it worth another listen, Ive put it on the ebay pile. I'll give it a spin on your recommendation.

hatfull of hollow the smiths

swag sack bob

billy brag, the one with the orange cover that says pay no more than 2..99 yet has a sticker from the stall in l'pool saying 3.99, and I paid it too.

The Streets - Original Pirate Material

restored my faith in modern music<3

Had a rummage in the loft the other day and found the box with all my vinyl, a couple not on my original list:-

The Shamen - In Gorbachev we trust - still like this today their early stuff was the best they went to shite after En-tact IMO

MC5 - Kick out the jams - Still stands up today IMO, timeless

has that one got christopher mayhew says? I've put that in the ebay pile too and kept entact, maybe I should keep it, ah what the hell. I'll keep the lot, even duran duran. I'm so annoyed I frisbeed my wham albums years ago, fantastic was actually a good album. and minsitry, they went years ago, god knows what was going thru my head. i didn't sell em for smakc. (my bro accused me of selling my records for drugs once. wha? coudn't carry them not rattling letalone rattling, and taking a taxi wouldn't work)

Well I like it, but look at my taste - that isn't saying much! =D

I can still remember buying as many Smiths records as I could afford, all on second-hand vinyl. That was one of the best things about living in Manchester - there was loads of it around and it was cheap! Good times.

100% thanks :)

It was on a good acid trip I heard them for the 1st time, I was good freinds with a guy who like me was viewed in the shitty chav town we lived in as a "freak" or strange as we liked The Doors, acid, ketamine etc while everyone else was into speed garage, soapbar & Stella ( You get the idea) I used to spend my weekends for many months & several days in the week eating acid in his yard & getting into all kinda of mad stuff lol.
He was the guy that also got me into The Doors & Jefferson Airplane too, though I have a huge love of Jungle my music taste goes from classical music such as Rostropovich ( My Russian ex used to also love his music, the nights we spent playing Rostropovich & Serkin Brahms Cello Sonata in E minor woul add up to several years tbh) to breakcore but 13th floor elevators are in my heart.

Thanks for the advice, I am very pleased :)
