I'm lost no where to turn, my son is a herion addict-he is also homeless, he wants help but cannot find anywhere or anyone to help him. He is 26 and has o'd more times than I can count, he has lost weight an does not look like the kid I knew. Is there any place out there that helps a person with no money and no insurance..My mind is racing scared, It is only a matter of time before we get the call...any info

There is always help available somewhere.
I'm guessing you live in the USA and I live in the UK so not sure how things work over there.
I'm sure if you contact a hospital they may be able to help you out with the names & numbers of places that you can contact.
Try not to worry, not easy I know but there will be help out there I am sure, you just need your son to put in the work it takes to get clean and stay that way.
I hope you have luck and I wish you and your son all the best.

Just had a thought, you could try posting this in the The Dark Side forum here on Bluelight as I'm sure someone on there will know how to help you or point you in the right direction.

There are some people that will get you into a detox for free. Also, some places will help you get on Medicaid. When I was in rehab about 80% of the people had come in there off the streets. From there they can set you up with a long term treatment center (3 months or so) in which Medicaid pays for it, or something else.

I am sure that many states have places like this. Here is one in NY, that is a Catholic charity rehab for the homeless. You can search for similar places in your area.

Psych wards will detox ppl if you say the right stuff. That you're suicidal. Which in a way a lot of us are in the grips of it. Some psych wards have seperate detox wings. Rehabs can take indigent people and let them in while they help them get assistance. Medicaid isn't that hard to get especially if ur homeless. In a lot of states i've been in Neways.

He could do what I did when I was homeless and had no food or shelter.....act like a suicidal schizophrenic and get checked into a psychiatric facility for a week or two and they will also help him find a place to stay

Justadream, my heart really goes out to you. I know that watching your child come so close to death and suffering the way people suffer when homeless makes you feel helpless. Don't lose hope--it is fantastic that your son wants help. I am going to send you a private message to see if I can help more once I find out where you live. I'm glad you are here. I know that what you are going through can make you feel very isolated and alone.<3<3

Thank You for your response, I tried to PM you but it is not working? We live in Akron,Ohio. He has went to the hospital multiple times they hold him for 72 hrs then throw him back to the wolves. with no insurance they just dont want to help. I have watched so many of his friends parents have to buried thier kids, he has lost more friends to drugs than one should have to handle. I know he has made these choices, I have tried not to give up, but he also has stolen from my family to support his habit. Sometimes i wander if he is better off in jail/I know that is horrible coming from a mother. At least i would know he is safe..I appreciate all your help. I feel as if i could just ramble on an on..just desperate

The important thing is that he WANTS help. It will be good if you check him into a rehab, an NA,AA, there are many of options. What I can suggest is that it seems that your son is having a lot of trouble with his harm reduction while using heroin. I can't say this for certain, but there's a good chance he'll be using again even when he tries to quit, and relapses are always possible. I suggest showing him some dosage information on heroin, and teach him to stay safe while he uses. Do you know if he uses clean equipment each time? Do you know if he's taking the proper steps to assure sanity while shooting up? Ask him these, there are classes and information online about safe injecting (check out the link in my signature). My heart goes out to you, it is not easy to watch your child in the jaws of addiction <3

Don't lie to the OP guys, if your son is 26 and is homeless and a heroin addict, I am sorry to say this, but there is NO HELP for him here in the USA. Without insurance or money he will NOT get into ANY rehabs or anything, especially sense he is 26 they really won't give a fuck... The best thing for your son is to bring him back to where you stay and do an at home detox, that is his only hope in my honest opinion... This world is fucked and people are assholes here in the USA, don't get your hopes up with someone doing something for free in this god-forsaken world that is already fucked...

I'm not lying. I'm not sure what you are talking about, but I personally know a lot of people that got into detox or rehab from "off the streets." if you call around to enough places, you will get some help, either directly, or indirectly from them referring you somewhere.

For some it works for others it doesn't. I know many people who report success in rehabs, and many who don't.

^ They are saying that he wouldn't even be able to get into a rehab anywhere. Detox is easier to get into than rehabs when you don't have money, which is why I suggested looking into some Catholic charity type rehab facilities like the one I linked in my other post.

I was just using rehab as more of an example. What they actually do to help you is what I'm referring to...I understand money situations with rehab.

I live in PA I was admitted to rehab without insurance. They applied for me while I was there. I know of about 20 recovery houses that take people without money as long as they make an effort to find work and abide by the rules of the house. The are tons of resources today in this business. My first trip to rehab I was 26.

I've had the same experience. I've met plenty of people in rehab who did not have insurance but were still admitted.

Medicaid is so easy to get. I dont know how he got denied if he applied for it. They give emergency food stamps and Medicaid to those without income. That's what its for.

Do you guys just honestly not follow what is going on in the world today? Do all of you live in fantasy worlds of optimistic nonsense? People don't give 2 shits and a hand basket about drug addicts in this world, they can't understand what they go through and their solution is always the same: "Why can't you just stop using?" well that theory works for every drug EXCEPT opiates in particular. I dunno I just always have learned to NEVER get your hopes up therefore you can never be let down by the answers you will receive....
