poems hide
in late night conversations
snow drifts
long autumn drives
bathroom stalls
in dimly lit auditoriums and time itself.
in broken glasses
and powdered sugar
in diamonds and dirt and toilet water-
in guitar chords and broken zippers,
in lollipops laced with painkillers...
in amish cheese and creek beds
in sushi bars and drive-thrus
in taxi cabs and trolleys
an bitten fingernails and stale milk---
in dance recitals
ambulances
crack houses and pubs
in the wedding ring you dropped down the drain
wilted daisies
flooded streets
in pedicures and sports-center
in bubble wrap and boredome...
in strip clubs and confessionals
the universe and tokeyo
in the oregano your little sister thought was pot
and cardboard boxes filled with styrofoam balls.
in thrift store sweaters and expensive champagne,
in my mother's cherry pie.
in feather beds and candlesticks
flat tires and dirty jokes---
in diet coke and disposable cameras
high heeled shoes
dustbusters and coffee shops.
in digital watches and tylenol PM
puddles and pirate ships
colorfully wrapped gifts---
duct tape and doorknobs,
cold lemonade.
ticket stubs and ticker tape,
recliners and windy roads
hemp necklaces and black lace bras...
fine italian merchandise and wooden rocking horses,
sunrises
sunsets
early morning classes.
in hospital visits and flower-filled vases,
daylight savings time and missing the bus,
in fuzzy feather boas and frosted tips,
dying day-lilies and a first kiss...
my poem, though-
is hiding in your eyes.
