I only found him via The Highway Men on Sunday (The Highway Men were an American country music supergroup consisting of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson.)

The guy can sure pick a guitar & he looks very tough, if Townes Van Zandt had lived to be older I picture him looking very much like Waylon Jennings.

Where the fuck do I begin with his studio albums & Live recordings?

Yes, Waylon Jennings had a well-documented and severe, long-term addiction to drugs, specifically cocaine and amphetamines, during the peak of his career. He was very candid about his substance abuse in later years, admitting to spending as much as $1,500 a day on cocaine at the height of his habit.
Key Details of His Addiction and Recovery:
  • The Habit: Jennings was a heavy user of amphetamines for years before developing a massive addiction to cocaine in the 1970s.
  • 1977 Drug Arrest: He was arrested on Aug. 23, 1977, at a Nashville recording studio for conspiracy and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. He later chronicled this event in his song "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got Out of Hand".
  • Financial Toll: He often mentioned in interviews that he spent astronomical amounts of money on his habit, stating he did more drugs than anyone he had ever seen.
  • Getting Sober: Jennings quit using drugs "cold turkey" in 1984. He credited his wife, Jessi Colter, for helping him through the detox process at a ranch in Arizona.
  • Health Impact: Although he quit drugs in 1984, years of excessive smoking, drug use, and a poor diet resulted in significant health problems, including Type 2 diabetes, which eventually led to his death in 2002.
Despite his struggles, Jennings was open about his past, admitting that for a time, he "lived the outlaw life" he was known for.
