I was told you could get one froim any chemist but I have been to three in St Kilda and South Yarra and all (after looking at me like I was scum) said "No". Tried the needle exchange and they didn't have them.
Online I saw some but they do not look like the ones used in blood tests. Saw a nurses' pack on ebay but not sure I trust ebay for ewomething like this.
Any ideas?
(Mods, I apologise if this is against the rules, I just want it for HR).

It's cool, you are allowed to ask for sources for HR items. :)

I would try medical supply stores; call them up first and ask if they sell them before going in. Or buy one online. If you need a cover story, say you are filming an anti-drug propaganda film and want a tourniquet to make it look really realistic. ;)

I've noticed when doing the rounds for codeine that some of the larger chemists have a specific section for medical supplies (BP machines, that kind of thing), whereas the smaller places don't. Maybe keep shopping around, just look for a large store in the city or a large shopping centre?

I just checked on ebay and saw a number of sellers with the same cloth strap/plastic clip tourniquets they use to do a blood test for sale, very cheap.

In Auckland they come for a gold coin in the needle exchanges... not sure about Aus...

^ I beleive the needle exchange at biala clinic doesn't give them out because it's better HR practice not to use one. If you use a tourniquet to register and don't release it before injecting it places a lot of pressure on the vein. Far better to make your veins prominent by doing some high intensity exercise, a warm compress, having a hot shower etc.

^All major walk-in NSPs in vic stock them. They're usually about $10.

I pinched a few from a city ER the other week when i was in for a cheek injury... as well as a heap of other injecting equipment and assorted goodies that one might find useful. I know pricing discussions isn't allowed, but since its HR and pricing at NSPs im sure it can be accepted.

^ We can post prices for harm reduction items. I'm not sure if that's stated in the AusDD rules but I'm not going to remove things like that.

What else did you grab from the ER? If you don't mind my asking. :)

^ Yeah, as Belarki suggested it's probably better to use a hot compress, flex the muscles... even briefly knot the armpit area of your shirt so that it squeezes your arm and makes the veins more visible.

if you have a drug buddy then you could just have them grip your upper arm, making sure they put their thumb on the vein that you inject into (trace your vein from your elbow into the underside of your upper arm.

works really well especially for those who have thin veins.
