I was on an 8mg ativan a day habbit for like 6 weeks. If I start to withdrawal, I get such severe acid reflux that my chest feels like its having a heart attack, and I can barley breathe with my esphogus inflamed. I guess because the benzo relaxes my LES, so the withdrawele inflames it.

I want to know what anyone who has tapered off short acting benzos did, I have 35mg left of it.

If I go to the detox facility in my area they just put me in an inpatient care detox & give me shitty phenobarbital and it doesnt help the withdrawele much, and plus I have to slow taper off that shit.

Whats a good way to taper?

Have you tried taking a proton pump inhibitor like prevacid, nexium, or prilosec for GERD? Benzo withdrawal wrecks your entire gastrointestinal system, and though I didn't get heartburn issues as far as I can remember a quick google search shows your definitely not alone. PPI's are the gold standard for acid reflux and a few can be bought OTC. Just be sure to take your dose an hour before eating, I personally prefer omeprazole (prilosec).

If you plan on going to a detox facility, I'd taper what you have before enrolling because they usually just taper you with either librium or like you say, phenobarbital. Some facilities will only give you ox/carbamazapine to prevent seizures and leave you to suffer. Being that you've only been on lorazepam for 6 weeks I wouldn't expect them to give you the most thorough of tapers.
