I had recieved a few unknown pills at one point in time, and i first used Drugs.com for their pill identifier and returned no results. I tried 2 other sites as well and yet again, returned no search results. It turns out they were generic Vicodin but thats besides the fact.

When coming to this site a good while back, I had broken a few rules before knowing the site was strictly for discussion and harm reduction of drug use. But dont you think taking unknown pills is a bit risky? I understand that allowing those discussions could cause some sort of unwanted controversy... But look how far along the thread on defeating the new OC time release has come along :p All so people can yet again use their drugs in the way they were not intended for. Im okay with that, being an ex drug addict. I remember thinking of any possible way to get my fix.

Point in question.... If i had gone to other sites to use a Pill Identifier and had returned no results, I'd much rather come to a community i respect like Bluelight to have real people help me out. Rather than taking unknown pills. Instead the thread was deleted. I just want to here peoples opinions on this, not trying to cause any controversy ;)

I think that there are definitely enough external resources to outweigh the risk it would bring to the forum. There are a TON of free resources out there for pill identification, and a simple google search can elucidate most of them. I use the free epocrates app for iPhone <3

And this will probably be closed soon, probably belongs somewhere like the support forum.

Same , it works good :D.

But anyways pill ID's are so easy to figure out with a google search, why make a thread about it?

I think that there are MORE than enough sources, outside of Bluelight to identify your pills. Ive been abusing drugs/pharmaceuticals for many many years and not once have I failed to ID a pill using the internet. It really is quite easy once you get good at it....all it takes is practice and some hard work to get it down, and some people think "why should I have to do some hard work to learn a skill on ID'ing pills when I could simply ask poeple on BL?"

In my opinion....there is nothing stopping you from ID'ing a pill using google or similar funcitons.......if you still cant ID the pill, than it either doesnt exist and its a fake pill, or you didnt look hard enough.

I never had a problem ID'ing pills with google. If I couldn't find out what pill it is with a google search I would call poison control and tell them I found a pill in my son's room. There is no reason for Moderators to have to moderate pill ID threads when ID is easily available through either of the methods I mentioned above.

pill ID's are a must

you've won me over with your compelling rhetoric.

I can see the harm reduction value in what you described, OP. If other resources don't satiate the need to know, then it makes sense to ask a community that might. However there is a lot more fallibility when asking addicts to ID pills versus a monitored and received database.

Furthermore, most people wouldn't be utilizing this in the situation you described... They'd likely be next-to-zero post count GLers who do not contribute anything asking the same pill ID's over and over again taking space and time away from discussion with real harm reduction value and if it got bad enough, deterring informative members from contributing because the same mindless threads on auto-repeat gets annoying as hell.

So that is why I personally oppose allowing pill ID threads.

Next time though, please post this type of thing in the support forum or PM the staff to discuss it. Whether your intent or not, inviting criticism of site policies does open the door for controversy as well as unnecessary and unproductive argument.
