is it the color shifts??
is it the time dilation?
is it the perspective shifts/visual misproportions between relative objects?
is it the visual distortions/warping/rippling/waving?
is it the way patterns such as wood grain and wallpaper morph into something else?
is it the kaleidoscopic fractals?
is it the feeling that somethings crawling on yer skin?
is it the people or objects you think you see but aren't really there?
is it the audible distortions?
is it the audible hallucinations/hearing voices/unheard lyrics/phantom sounds?
is it the outstanding revelations you come to about the mechanics of the world?
is it the chance you had to meet god?
is it the the ability to finally face aspects of your life that you've been running away from?
is it that feeling of flying/getting sucked down a drain?
is it the closed eye visuals?
is it the paranoia?

perspective shifts or as i call it entering another dimension. and outstanding revelations you come to about the mechanics of the world. those are the ones i love the most.

Getting strong emotional vibes from everything -- people and inanimate objects...
See that happy house? Oh, that one is sad. etc...
Yummy.

I don't eat acid to "expand my mind". I just eat it because I get fucked up in a pleasurable way, and it is cheap. That might not be the answer your looking for, but its the truth...

I like feeling like I am in a giant dome and the whole words is putting on a show for me.
That's what I feel like when I trip. Nothing exists outside of the dome. It's fucking amazing. Oh, and the thoughts and insights are tremendously useful once I leave the dome.

To close my eyes and fly free under the bright firmament of my imagination, the swirling fractal beauty of the Aurora Mentalis.
Bachus

time dialation, synaesthasia, increased sensitivity to energy, ability to read situations perfectly, and having a zen archer's solid concentration, oh, yeah, and closed eye virtual-reality visuals

"virtual reality visuals", you probably mean what can be called "eidetic imagination", which is my favorite hallucinatory effect by far.
i have some problems with the usual psychedelics giving me "embarassing" visuals like mushrooms and alien faces and stuff.. so i tend to avoid them..
however
i did see the universe end on a DXM+K combo and yes, that was good.

While it was hard work and overwhelmingly out of control at times, I enjoyed my first mushroom experience for all the colour and distortion that only my mind could produce. With MDMA, I'm in so much more control of what goes on (closed eye visuals). Quite different, but much more fun - mainly cartoon characters (nothing like Walt Disney) and colourful vortex/wormholes that I travel through.
Both experiences are extremely liberating.

I echo most of the above, but my favorite tripping effect is lucid dreaming for up to a few weeks afterward.

My favorite effect is "getting linked into the sound matrix" as I put it. Trance is great for this.

We have just been awakening the most ancient.

great topic!
my favs while shroomin' are the "morphing" effect, like when i am looking at my friend's face and it turns into someone else's...
I also really enjoy thinking outside the box, like, 99% of the time while sober, i see things one way. Tripping, I see it totally differently. Like, my friend was sitting in a chair and i thought his silhouette looked like an angel... weird.

oh yeah, and almost all the shit we talk about is religious in nature...

Hands down the auditory hallucinations. I can listen to Tool or Ol' Dirty Bastard and have the time of my life, just staring at the wall, watching it vibrate to the beat.

Seeing yourself from different angles as though your eyes are omnipresent.
And the 'spinning out' type out-of-body-experience hallucination.
