Mental Health Whats worked for those actively looking for docs to prescribe benzos/convince them?

Honestly only the people on benzos say that SSRIs are worse smh

What a great way to discount any statements that could disprove you.

I'm NOT on benzos anymore, I WAS, but you are wrong about this.

TONS of people find benzos to be more effective for anxiety than SSRIs.

Hell, you can't even FEEL an SSRI kick in!!

That alone makes benzos more efficient, you can take one and 30 mins later you actually FEEL it kick in and your anxiety drops.

With SSRIs you take them and in 6 weeks you still wonder if they are even working because they are so incredibly subtle and can take all kinds of different lengths of time to work if they even work at all!!

THEY CAN work for anxiety and I'm finding now that I THINK my Lexapro MAY be working after 7 weeks, but they aren't quick and efficient tools which immediately hit the anxiety like benzos and you'll find TONS of people who agree with this statement.

Very interesting topic. I have severe anxiety but the doctor prescribed me SSRIs (when in reality, benzos would be better - not daily, just when necessary). I got rid of the SSRIs. I take GABA supplements which helps but it's nothing compared to an actual benzo. Still need benzos for my panic attacks. I'm going on a plane in a couple months. I mostly have social anxiety but I also am INCREDIBLY scared of heights and even more scared of planes - at age 24, I still haven't been on one. My boyfriend and I went on a trip that was 24 hours away and we drove there because I couldn't fly. Anyway, I am REALLY wanting to have benzos for this. I know it'll help. And we're going on an airplane and crossing the border so obviously you need a prescription. Uggh :(

Precisely. SSRIs may hide your anxiety but they aren't even FOR anxiety. They are for depression and don't even work all the time for that!

I wouldn't totally agree with your bolded statement though.

Some SSRIs ARE supposed to work on particular types of anxiety, for example, that caused by OCD.

I have OCD and GAD and I have found Prozac and now Lexapro to work on some of my issues and I am pretty sure you can find that they can work for that in the DSM.

BUT...overall we are largely in agreement that SSRIs are much less dramatically effective to immediately lesson anxiety than benzos.

However, I am now on Lexapro and feeling MUCH better than I had been 2 months ago off of it, so they CAN work well for anxiety also.

I don't know how this thread stayed open for so long.

We cannot tell you what to say to your doctor to get a certain type of medication.

Closed.
