I got bitten badly by a dog (at work - party of the risk) and once they'd x-rayed etc they operated on me.

All I remember is one big needle, possibly two, being injected. The doctor said count back from 10. I remember getting to 5 and that was it until I was back in the hospital room and I still felt nice and giddy. What was that? Pethedine?

Jesus, that could be dangerous.

You have to ask for ketamine and I think only get it cause I'm a heroin addict so they try to avoid opiates but there are so many of these drugs. It's less dangerous with an anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetist watching you. Seriously, google it. Tons of these drugs.

What? I don't think you get to ask what you want - they rolled me in to theatre on a trolley, attached some of those sticky pads to my chest and then injected me with something and I THINK I heard them say pethedine but I'm not sure, and am sure there was another needle too.

What were they?

Maybe fentanyl and midazolam?

wiki: Intravenous midazolam is indicated for procedural sedation (often in combination with an opioid, such as fentanyl), for preoperative sedation, for the induction of general anesthesia, and for sedation of ventilated patients in critical care units

We can't tell you, unfortunately. Different doctors use different things.

The gold standard for IV sedation is usually midazolam and maybe fentanyl. Ketamine is reserved for animals and children.
