You know the one where the binders get caught in ya lings slowly over time?
Ive stopped doing this now thanks to the advice from BL, but I have a friend who Im concerned about who wont stop cooking it up.
Ive heard someone say the name of it before but I cant remember.

Does anyone know the name?
I wanna tell my mate what it's called & i wanna get more info about it because his been cooking up & shooting oxy for a long time.
Does anyone know if there's any tests to be done it check if there's any problems?
like a chest x-ray or something. If i can get the name of the disease I can look up to see if there's anything ya can do

thanks. Ive tried UTSE but cant find it again.

Talcosis of the lungs (pulmonary talcosis) can also be caused by insufflating pills with talc as a binder/filler. I have also read about frequent opana er insufflation causing a nasty condition called silicosis due to the silica that is in the tablets not sure if this can be caused by injection too but I would assume so to be safe. If he is going to continue to inject dissolved pills he should really consider using a micron filter (See Capt. Heroin's injection safety thread).

Edit* good call you beat me to the link while I was looking up the info. OP: definitely check that thread if you haven't seen it already.

^^^Endocarditis is a disease caused by bacteria entering your bloodstream and lodging on the valves in your heart. They erode them away over time. It's not exclusive to IV drug users but is more common in that group, for obvious reasons.. info on endocarditis

The general term for the lung disease is pneumoconiosis (which covers talcosis) - often associated with coal workers inhaling coal dust, but the same process occurs with talc or other fillers/binders in pills getting trapped in the capillaries in the lungs leading to inflammation and scarring. It can be likened to emphysema from smoking, in that it develops slowly over time causing increasing shortness of breath and a cough, and it is irreversible. Ultimately it can lead to lung failure and can cause as pulmonary hypertension and heart failure too as nAON said.. not a good thing to get, hence us always going on about micron filters!

Micon megathread and an interesting paper on talcosis caused by IV administration of oral medications if anyone is interested in reading more about it :)
