My doctor prescribed me Ativan and it's not very euphoric, so I was thinking of requesting to be changed to something else. (It's prescribed for Anxiety but sometimes I'll dose a little higher).

Since I'm thinking on changing I'd also prefer something with some euphoria.

I was thinking of going with Diazepam, would that be a better choice?

Temazepam. There are very few euphoric benzos but temaz is one of the two or three that are. The ones you mention are not really but I'd probably go for the diaz cos it's a good all-rounder.

There's a ton of threads on this topic already in BDD so there may be some hot merge action on the horizon.

I'd agree with Temazepam for the most part.

Alprazolam (xanax) for recreational use will always be my first choice due to its extremely short half-life/duration and awesome kick-your-ass ability.

Might merge this.

Do you think a doctor would make a switch from Ativan to Tamazepam for mild anxiety and insomnia?

Probably not - temaz is a short-acting benzo mainly used short-term for insomnia. Depends on your doc though - I've been scripted both temaz and diaz for years. The diaz is mainly prescribed for anxiety and the temaz for insomnia in my case.

I'm assuming (possibly wrongly) that you are in the US where it's pretty tightly controlled and seems to be rarely prescribed. Even in countries like the UK where it's more common most docs will only prescribe it for a week or two as it's notoriously abusable. As I said, depends on your doc but seems much harder to get a script for it in the US compared to the UK (and Oz, I think).

Because benzodiazepines are controlled, produce dependency and withdrawal can be life threatening. Taking 2 benzodiazepines at the same time is normally contraindicated as well. Most doctors will try something else before they put you on a benzo. Most doctors won't put you on more than 1 benzo at a time.

it all depends on your doc, no offense but I have noticed that here in the US that finding a doc in a less affluent are in a city who got his degree outside of the US they typically dont mind starting you on whatever you tell them your last doctor prescribed. Dont try to scam them but if other docs arent giving you what you truly need I have found this to work.

I live in the US and am currently RXed 30mg Temazepam (30) and 10mg Valium (90) for my sleep/anxiety/ptsd as well as 350mg Soma (90) and 5/500 Vicodin (60) for back pain. Idk I guess it all depends on your doctor and where you live....here in FL they seem to be a lot more liberal with their prescriptions.

I live in Canada but I don't know how strict Temazepam is here. I also wasn't planning on being on both Benzo's, I was going to ask to be switched to Temazepam instead of Ativan.

Temaz is almost exclusively scripted short-term (as in for a week or two) for insomnia and even then most docs won't script it. Dunno the situation in Canada but I really wouldn't get your hopes up. There's a reason it's so notoriously abusable and the doc's are well aware of it so rarely script it. But you may get lucky :)

*pops another coupla temazis*

How many benzos have classic tunes written in honour of their awesomeness?

Never tried temazapam....triazolam (halcion) was prescribed to me for insomnia, not sure if that can be prescribed for anxiety also. Some people dont like triazolam i guess, but its the only benzo i've ever gotten any kind of euphoria from. i've tried xanax, klonopin, valium, ativan, and triazolam was definately my favorite. Maybe you can get triazolam for insomnia at night and something else for anxiety during the day?

Any advice on how to open up with the request?
I'm thinking of going with "The Ativan isn't working for sleep, I've done some research and was thinking of trying Temazepam for a few weeks to see if it works".

Prolly not the best thing to say, but any help would be great ;)

i take lorazepam, triazolam, and temazepam, so i know a good amount on these. 1 mg ativa, 1mg triazolam, and 30-45mg temazepam works gr8! :)
