Benzos aren't very good for RLS, they don't really do shit besides help you fall asleep (seriously read the articles on it, its better for PLMS which is common for individuals with RLS). Something like Gabapentin, pramipexole, ropinirole, tramadol, propoxyphene, methadone, etc. are all good RLS medications.
I currently take methadone 30mg/day and 2mg of clonazepam before bed for severe RLS and PLMS.
Most doctors will start you on pramipexole (dopamine agonists) as a first line treatment, then move on to benzos (though some will start with benzos, but with newer info out, it isn't as common to start with), then try gabaergics like gabapentin, and possibly low potency opioids. You wont start getting into potent opioids unless all the other options haven't helped.
I would type more on this subject, or pull of the couple of post that I have made on the subject here, but here is a good site in the mean time, ignore the simple design.
http://www.rlshelp.org/ <-- one of the best resources for starting to understand RLS. Theres letters from patients, treatment options (drug and non-drug related), links to other sites, etc.
