Wear sensible shoes.

:)

What is the best piece of practical, or not-so-practical, advice you've been given? There does not have to be just one.

Fucking get over yourself. You're no big deal nor anything special, and definitely don't warrant the constant worrying and selfpity, especially as it's never done any good.

^^ Didn't much like it at the time, probably because it was true.

edit: oh TDS advice. Never got any.

Oh all the advice I don't take myself, but give to others.

Ptah you both have a point and also not so...... it rather depends upon the personal circumstances at the time of each individual.

The best part I found personally as a poster ( as opposed to person who can click a few more buttons than other posters) was the support given during withdrawal from opiates that was unexpected, and gratefully received.

The best 2 pieces of advice I have ever been given, came from my mom and dad. I suppose they don't count but since they have often come up over my years, I think they are worth something.

Mom (when I was 12) "Never admit to anything....ever"

Dad (a used car salesman) "Never trust anyone who says 'Trust Me' ".

true advice- cool parents=D

Here's something I was talking about in a topic on SLR:

I went to a Christian high school and they were, of course, big on not divorcing and on saving yourself for marriage, etc.

My bible teacher once said: "Sometimes love won't be a feeling. There'll be bad days and good days. Some days, love is a conscious decision."

And though I know that his words probably come from the wrong place, namely that he was encouraging people to stay in loveless relationships indefinitely, I feel that there's actually some wisdom in them, and I've always remembered his words. There WILL be bad days in a relationship and while hopefully it doesn't feel like you're totally OUT of love with them, sometimes you just won't be feeling it. On those days, you need to sit down and think to yourself "You know, maybe I'm not feeling it right now. But I do love this person."

"You are the master of your own destiny. There is nobody to blame but yourself if you end up failing in life."

^I suppose "dying" is as good a definition of failing in life as any.
Gotta admit I don't own a car though, so that's probably a good one too.

"Life is beautiful."

the advice is implicit but obvious and I try to live by it every day

something along the lines of, "don't take life too seriously." means a lot to me since i used to stress about so many things.

"Moderation in all things, including moderation"- im not talking about booblight here either.

Actually, my dad blew my mind yesterday; a simple text message "You were never born, and you will never die"... spun me out. But its nice. Kinda shocked me that my own dad told me I wasn't born....

Take it easy- thats good adive.
Its all good- more good advice

But the ultimate-

BE HERE NOW

^If you do that, how can you be ever be afraid?

When I started doing coke, a buddy told me, "cut up your ATM card NOW, and don't get another one until you are done with this stuff." Being unable to score some more yay at 1am saved me a lot of money and a lot of strung out mornings.
