Heya,

I've been a long time reader of this site. The title of this post is in regards to opiates. I recently read a topic in regards to somebody talking about how 90%+ of those who take opiates 'occasionally' or are weekend users never truly stop taking opiates, and eventually always turn into something more (Heavy oxy/sub habits or dope). I agree with the idea that if somebody develops a habit of taking opiates, very rarely do they just stop without thinking about it. It always turns into MORE MORE MORE. Im not talking about taking the occasional opiate, but rather the person that says, "Im taking opiates 3x a week and no more", for example.

Im not sure what Im getting at, but what I am pointing out is hard to word. People say you never truly get off the opiate train and it's hell. Some people say they quit for X amount of years and are completely clean, but then are overun with guilt when they dose up again after being clean. (Not relapsing really, im talking about being 100% clean for a long time and dosing again). It's not really the end of the world, your just taking a pill to get high? Why do people fuss so much over being clean FOREVER? I think it's all mental and because opiates are so addicting, going through the trouble of stopping use and then starting up again brings up guilt because it was such a hard road to quitting...?

I can't really think of a way to word it, but read this guys post. http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showthread.php?t=582066

Whats the big deal if theres no such thing as a casual opiate user? Going on a binge for a few weeks, stopping and then dosing a few months later isnt a big deal. I guess what im really wondering is whats all the hype about being clean forever? Seems like its nothing more then a peti psychological battle...

I had oxycodone scripted for a few weeks after I had my wisdom teeth pulled last year, and have never felt the urge to seek out more after I ran out.

Lucky you.

I feel if you are taking the pills for a purpouse, or obtained them for any legal reason you are less likely to get addicted as quick or crave the drug then as if you are using them soloely to get high. Agree?

It's viewed as a personal defeat or failure to the person who had to work so hard to achieve being clean. They feel that for them, using opioids is an all or nothing affair.

You might liken it to someone who was overweight, went on a strict diet, and successfully lost the weight as intended. One day that person gives in to a craving for junk food, and in spite of their achievement, as well as the fact that eating junk food once [realistically] will not have any negative consequence in the context of weight gain, they feel guilty and kick themself because they gave in.

Cognitive dissonance. It is indeed psychological. And it is a battle. But it is in no way petty. Your mind is all.

Well, no one would have anything bad to say or feel about any drugs (not just opiates) if the never led to bad situations/consequences. Doing the drugs everyday isn't the problem, its the fucked up shit that happens to ur life when you do them everyday.

Most people can't do them occassionally.
Most people's use Increases exponentially
Most people start having fucked up shit happen to them, so the fucked up shit becomes the problem, TECHNICALLY NOT THE DRUGS.
