What would you say about heroin?

So I wrote a paper on heroin addiction for my extreme deviance class now I have to give a 3 minute presentation. Its a class full of sociology and phycology majors so these people could concievably one day be in position to help or hurt addicts. As a representative of our sub culture I feel a responsibility to give 3 minutes of non bullshit propaganda as I figure it will be the only chance they will ever get to hear our side. The thing is I have no idea what I want to say. So im putting it out to you guys if you could tell the general public something about heroin what would it be? If its good Illinclue it in my presentation

The first thing you should try to do is attempt to form a common ground through the classic comparison of a mother holding a child, and how similar that entire emotional experience is for a heroin addict. People will automatically judge you for being up there defending something they decided was trashy a long time ago, so it's an uphill battle, especially if it's obvious that you're a drug user. People will think your presentation is selfish, narcissistic, and off-putting until you create common ground. Try to convey that heroin is not just about getting high. It is about filling a void, and while it is destructive and deadly, the feeling heroin addicts get that specifically differentiates them from other drug users is the warmth and comfort that can only be felt in a mother-child relationship. Then move on to showing why your audience should empathize with those who have succumbed to it because of the substitute for love and comfort that it offers.

Don't say shit about legalization. One step at a time with these people.

maybe you could take some of the common myths of heroin and just let them know what the truth is?

cb has a great suggestion about establishing common ground. i do this all the time when i give presentations about autism... i get the teachers to think about their own strange habits and quirks before discussing their (potential) students' quirks. it really helps them see the kids as real people not some annoyance the district is forcing them to have in their class.

CB thats a great idea and analogy im going to use that. thank you. I like your idea as well spork.
