What would you change about society to make it ideal for you?

For one thing, I would make all schools and learning hands-on, all about doing instead of sitting in one place all day or reading for eight hours straight under florescent lights. The reason being that I think that we as human beings aren't wired to be kept in one place, doing one thing so long. The lack of variety, I believe, contributes to ADD and other problems with learning. In my ideal world, I would be working while learning, mainly outdoors with lots of fresh air and with a variety of other people.

Second thing I would do, is make it so every few blocks (or every apartment complex) there would be community nap areas, kitchens and gardens so people could hang out, cook together, cuddle together, and generally see each other enough so that neighbors would become closer and more loving towards each other. I would definitely like to be closer to my neighbors, even just to feel safe and watched-over by people who aren't as young and confused as I am.

What about you?

What you just described sounds good.

Also:

1) End the war on drugs
2) End the oppression of women's rights by making and keeping abortion legal without exception
3) End the crusade against poker and end the crusade against Gambling. This is not money well spent. Put the money into better schools and roads instead.
4) Change or eliminate the speed limits on highways and instead enforce the laws against more dangerous actions such as tailgating, unsafe lane changes, etc.
5) Eliminate the drinking age.
6) Stop banning guns and eliminate most or all forms of gun control.

I am bumping this thread back to the main page because it seems to have been overlooked.

Wingnutlives posted a thoughtful and interesting question that I thought would get more replies.

Wow very interesting question...

The main thing I have a problem with is people having too much pride/concern for their own self. People who are too caught-up in their own existance to appreciate the Universe around them disgust me.

Hmmm, a way to combat this...

Ecstasy. Large quantities of Ecstasy. In the drinking water :)

1. Bring back the gillotine for murderers, rapists, and child molesters (the last two categories are to be castrated first, then the guillotine).

2. Legalize all drugs. The money currently spent on the drug war is to be spent on drug awareness education and rehabilitation.

3. All automobiles will be converted to electric power.

4. there will be no more harvesting of forests, for any reason.

5. Those with an abundance of wealth will be stripped of their wealth, and this money will be used to combat world hunger and poverty. No more gluttony. Fuck the rich.

Man that would be a nice world :)

AGREEEEED!!!
Good call jackjones!

-Convert contrives to socialist democratic republics, where everyone is treated the same regardless of race, religion or any other factor.

-legalize all drugs so we can help addicts instead of imprisoning them. Also doing this would create safer drugs.

-Stop materialism

Yes, clearly communism is the answer to our problems.

what does a person need 50 cars for? who are they to sit on a mountain of cash while there are starving children out there?

"Socialism is. "

would you care to explain that, perhaps in a private message so we do not bore everyone with a political discussion?

no. i dont want to speak privately with you, or continue this argument. i said my piece.

That might make him a "bad" person, but that is his right. He earned those cars, they are his.

Many wealthy people donate lots of money to charity. Some don't. You want to government to FORCIBLY remove people's money and property if they have too much?

Really?

How would this work exactly? We set an arbitrary amount above which you are not allowed to have any more money?

Who decides what to do with the extra money that is then taken from the rich? The government? And you expect them to do a goob job distributing the funds properly?

Don't get me wrong here, I am not rich, in fact I am very poor. But it is easy to hate the rich and blame them for the suffering of the poor, right?

The government already DOES take lots and lots ofmoney from people, and it misuses it. Taking MORE money is NOT the solution!

i'd kill cunts. i shall post a serious one when i am not intoxicated and i have brain power. i used it all up on an earlier post. but people earned their money its theirs not yourss. bet ya wouldn't be saying this is if you worked your ass off and couldn't keep it;) it is easy to blame others for our problems.

End world hunger and poverty.

End the wars in the middle east/gaza/somalia/any war-torn country.

It horrifies me that in 2009 ffs, this world can still have people dying needlessly at the hands of criminals in lawless countries, people being raped and beaten and people starving to death.

oh "they" did, did "they?"

Who exactly are you referring to?

Well there is the people ontop who really play a influential role in the makings of conning the masses, and then there is the hard working guys who get rich only because the people at the top have orchestrated it this way.

You say that these people work damn hard and deserve what they get, but I tell you that across the world people work double as hard and get 10000x less.

It is only because we exploit countries like india, china, indonesia etc that we are able to afford things at such cheap prices.

So there is they at the top who are like bankers, which have a very elaborate scheme that directly scams the people, and then there is they who ride on the coat tales of those at the top, i.e mcdonalds owners etc.

I could go on and on...

Escape.

I don't mean suicide or vacation: I mean places where people who need to can go and really get away from it all, get away from society *period*. There was a time when someone who felt they didn't fit in society could walk off into the desert and find a cave to meditate alone in for the next 50 years. I'm not saying I could do it, but with my own issues I greatly admire the people who could do it. No longer; in the U.S., anyway, every square inch is owned by either the government, a corporation, or private individual. There's no room for a Thoreau or a St. Anthony unless you want to be an itinerant (I know a few), and I think that's a real loss, because the only ideal world we can create is the one within, the one wholly in our control.

(This is officially my most Gnostic post ever.)
