I need some expert anectdotal evidence... what has worked to prevent influenza, sinus, and rhinitis outbreaks from forum participants? i.e., have you discovered any supplement or regimen that prevents the flu, sinus infections etc and has kept you free from illness for as long as 4 years?

I'm skeptical when it comes to supplements (to prevent getting sick anyways). I think really the best thing you can do is keep your immune system healthy with good diet, exercise and sleep.

^Well said. A good diet + good sleep + regular physical activity is a great combo.

Hiding from sick people is just gonna make your immune system weaker in the long term. And you can't completely avoid exposure to viruses anyway.

The head of CSIRO (Australian Govt Science labs) during the 60's and 70's was asked, after he retired, what discovery he was most disappointed hadn't 'made it big' and he said zinc sulphate (zinc sulfate in US) It worked against every virus they could test it on. I do wonder how it might work as an AIDS preventative but hey, who's gonna volunteer for that? :D

They had been looking for things to neutralise viruses and the zinc was way out front as most effective - it apparently prevent the virus from using the cell to replicate itself - it can invade a cell but not spread. Dose is small, around 25mcg 3 or 4 times a week is fine and cheap - in Australia you can get it in the supermarket for about $7 for 100 - so that's about 3 months supply. It's not harmful either - not sure what effects would be if you sculled the entire bottle at once, but you can take 4 in a day with no problems if everyone around you is sneezing - but that's just a psych comfort - if you've been taking your dose regularly you won't get anything anyway.

I get a bit slack with it on occasion and the worst I've had is a tickle in the back of the throat (that normally precedes a solid dose of flu or cold) and then it goes away - mind you, that tickle is when I go take 3 or 4 and get back onto the regular doses. :D

So far i havent had a cold or flu and this is because of diet, exercise and supplements combined. Ime, I will still get sick without supplements even if i exercise or eat healthy but others might be different.

Other pearls of wisdom include washing hands with soap and not leaving food sitting out, especially meat. Wash plant based food in hot water and cook meat to proper temps.
You'd be surprised how poor sanitation habits can affect health - it can be the healthiest food in the world and still cause harm if contaminated.

Genetics plays a large factor, but not much can be done proactively there. Choosing not to follow universal precautions with the intent of building natural immunity or even effect evolutionary adaptation is arguably precarious at best. It's certainly not an accepted medical practice in first world countries. Arguments could venture toward the topic of vaccines, however history has more or less solved any questions of efficacy and risks.

I used to get a cold once or twice a month during the winter seasons (from September/October to May, in Canada), I have for my whole life. Last year I was taking vitamin C and zinc on a fairly regular basis and was still sick. I've been vegetarian for a few years and I've been much healthier (in the past few years vs ten years ago) but still getting sick. Anyway, I'm about 95% vegan now (and have been since the summer). And I have gotten a cold once!!! That's all! It was amazing.
Correlation isn't causation but I know that I'm sticking this one out. My first year not getting sick all the time? Awesome! I don't even take vitamin C regularly anymore (I still try to take zinc a couple times per week). Other supplements I take are vit B12 and iron and GABA.

good hygene
good sleep habits
good food
dont subject yourself to the presence of sick people
eat raw garlic and drink OJ
live in a bubble or wash your hands alot

Basically what everyone else is saying - good diet, sleep, exercise, keeping a clean environment. Juicing fresh fruits and veggies is a good way to get plenty of vitamins, and I think this helps a lot.

I work in a health care environment and the docs/nurses are constantly told to "scrub in/scrub out" - that means, wash your hands a LOT. Getting a bottle of antibacterial hand gel is a good reminder. I have definitely heard anecdotal evidence on zinc, and I take it as well - not high doses, but enough to make it through cold/flu season

kung fu
chi gong
proper rest
healthy, organic, seasonal diet
sipping hot water all day
shots of ACV
shots of cayenne pepper and lemon
reishi tea
garlic
raw honey
shots of oregeno oil, sometimes i snort oregeno oil in the winter
lots of thyme, rosemary, cumin, coriander, and turmeric in my diet in the winter

flu shots are a toxic scam
