What was the best "sleeping pill" for you?

I've been taking barbiturates (lately Seconal or Alurate, but formerly Seconal or Tuinal) on and off for sleep for perhaps a year to sixteen months now. I

-2, Seconal, 200mgs Secobarbital for 1 week then alternating with
-2-3, Amytal Sodium
-2,Tuinal, 100mgs Seconal+Amytal combined in one pill.
-2, Alurate.
-2, Nembutal, 100mgs Pentobarbital was the most effective Unfortunately,

Good lord, you're full of shit. Unless it's somehow become 1971, I highly doubt you're on these meds, considering that Amytal Sodium, Tuinal and Alurate are discontinued and that Seconal is so incredibly rare that it can pretty much be considered to be gone. So, you're on both a high dose of Desoxyn and short-acting barbs? Bullshit you are. Davids, seriously do BL a favour and stop posting the endless bullshit and lies.

Klonapin works best as a sedative for me, mirtazipine works almost as well, though it is an atypical ssri as well, so be careful what you take with it.

Ambien worked very well for me but i ended up dependant on it, i tried lumnesta but it left me with a HORRIBLE taste in my mouth for about 24 hours after taking it

I hate the damn taste thingy with lunesta. It can happen with ambien too but its much more difficult (for me I have to take more than the recommended dose with ambien to get the bad taste, and its still not as bad as lunesta).

If melatonin wont do the trick then I would recommend ambien or maybe a mild benzo to induce sleep.

im thinking the same, maybe i should get a lil valium or something, ambien was far too addictive for me

I'm currently on Lexapro (Escitalopram, SSRI) for anxiety and I have trouble sleeping most nights. I very very rarely drink coffee and I do not smoke. I exercise at least 5 times a week.

Before I was on zopiclone but found it made me very groggy/dizzy the next day. (Almost as bad as not sleeping!).

Next week I will be flying back to uni (holidays are ending) and I have very very bad trouble with jet lag. The problem is I have an important exam the first day back and I need to try and get into a proper sleeping pattern for those first few days.

What sleeping tablet worked best for you? Do doctors tend to prescribe it relatively often?

Thanks.

Your doctor prescribed you lexapro for sleeping problems? Im on it right now and it was not prescribed to me for that but it works well.

While Valium can be used as a sleep med, I find that there are better meds out there. The main reason for this being that Valium's long half-life can lead to morning grogginess. I'd recommend something like Temazepam. I'd also say try triazolam, but you need to be especially careful with it, because of its risk of causing unusual behaviour. Zopiclone/Eszopiclone may be another option, its dependency risk is comparatively lower, however, its main downside is the unpleasant taste in the mouth it causes.

1. lormetazepam (noctamid)
2. triazolam (halcion)

..... are my favourites. they will definatly put me into sleep. %)
besides i think that thc is also very good as a "sleeping aid"

I prefer nitrazepam. I like the fact that it is hypnotic and has an intermediate half life. It helps me sleep throughout the night, but doesn't make me feel too groggy in the morning. The only thing I don't like about nitrazepam is that it seems every time I take it, I wake up at least 2-3x per night, but at least I am able to fall back asleep without any trouble.
