People will let you down. Your friends and family WILL let you down. But keep the Faith is what is meant by Take up the cross and follow me.

What happened over the years is religions put exclusivity clauses on these messages instead of realizing the simplicity. But basically we should watch our actions.

Logically the only way society works is cooperation. It is a law. And I believe Nature knows that. Gravity is a law. And to me the Golden Rule is a law.

Exactly, that is what I call the exclusivity clause. Jesus did not exclude anyone. And when you read the simple statements I realize all he was saying was "be cool".

Religion took this stuff and made it exclusive to the person preaching. But I believe Jesus, Krishna, Buddah, Mohamed, aboriginal beliefs, etc... are all the same message packaged only slightly different. They all say to "be cool".

How sure are you about this? You seem like one of those who don't believe in Jesus because you need to raise your expectations of Jesus. Jesus invented planet Earth. Jesus invented Bruce Lee. If you meet Jesus, or someone who claims to be Jesus, you are allowed to ask him to do 500 push ups to prove that he is the true Prince of the Universe. If someone says they are Jesus but they are not the Prince of the Universe then they are not Jesus, in fact they might be the anti-Jesus. The Prince of the Universe can do at least 500 push ups.

As almost everybody let Him down, after all on the Golgotha during His Crucifixion there were just His mother, Mary of Clopas, Mary Magdalene (John 19:25), and Mary the mother of James and John (Matthew 27:56). Organized religion can indeed be a trap but can also give you a number of tools that you cannot find anywhere else. For instance after years of mistrust I went back to Catholicism because historically and theologically make sense to me and because I feel part of a 2000 years old spiritual tradition, so I use it as a means to an end despite all the well known issues past and present. I ld rather have a Pope in Rome and some form of control that one million of con men pope wannabes at any corner talking nonsense and ripping people off as we have down here in Brazil....

Wonderful wisdom in Man's Eternal Quest and Autobiography of a Yogi. Seems they recognized who Jesus was. And also recognized we all have that in us and can start heading that way. I mean Jesus himself was saying we are all the same, the works I do you can do also. Why would he say that if we all could not become yogis?

Ugh, I meditated a lot in this life and really only got a little peace. I think I follow the way of Bhakti Yoga. Easier to love things for me than to sit and meditate. I still do but I never could meditate for too long. Not sure that was my path.

Jesus resisted all Earthy temptations. Because he had a job to do. He almost wanted out. (please take this cup from me). Did not want to be nailed to a cross but knew he had too. Resisted power over people. Resisted gossip, harming others. And generally threw out a lot of wisdom to the people that could listen. (those with ears listen). If you think about it nailing him to a cross for whatever he did was sick in the head. People were sick. Had no path, did not know how to live. A king would kill a king for power, yet Jesus did not want that power and only a few understood.

@skipjames there is wisdom in organized religion too. Most people just show up for social hour. The same reason Jesus overturned the bingo tables. Wrong motive. People were not listening and still doing their own church things. But if a person that goes to a Catholic Church walks the walk and is a good human being then all is well. I tend to get mad at hippocrates. Hippocrates do things and tell you not to do them. Hippocrates are the biggest problem and is one of the biggest "sins" (I honestly do not like the word sin, too religious but we know what it is, harming another human).

I am glad sonicwhite started the thead. I know he gets crap. But he comes back and takes time to post to me that is endearing. Nothing wrong with seeking. Nothing wrong with starting a discussion from whatever angle. It is to discuss. Argue, debate, stir it up.... I will listen to anything and take what I need.

Well I do like Peter don't get me wrong. Jesus's own Words the least among you will be the greatest. Who was that? Saul known the Apostle Paul who nearly wrote the whole NT and these churches you see everywhere are because of His unwavering love for Jesus. This is why Jesus doesn't have to final flash a planet to prove who He is. Simply His humility is enough but when He looks at you it's the wound in the heart not the wrath many think of Him as but an Ocean of forgiveness and compassion. Everyone recognizes that the old testament was a different situation. We also need to recognize that during most of the gospel story, the people did not have the Holy Spirit, did not have the Blood, etc etc. The epistles tell us what those stories meant to us and for us.
