What Was It Like? 6/28/01
What was it like to lay with you?
A summer Day in my room
Blinds pulled up, Windows open.
Two battered naked bodies,
at rest, at peace,
the world around them fades into its own blizzard of busy.
Every breath I take saturated with the smell of your hair.
My arms wrapped around your powdered skin
My chest afire, pressed against your back.
Do you feel my heart beating?
Our legs wrapped, toes playing.
My left hand cupping your breast,
My right combing your hair.
Can you feel that?
Can you hear that?
Our souls at play.
Playing a field of grass –
Children once more
Spinning in the expanse of our love
Do you know that feeling?
When can I feel this again?
So I ask…
What was it like to lay with you again?

Find one person you can count on forever, one person you can love forever, and one person you can be with forever... and if you're lucky, it will all be the same person.

i was updating my poetry database on my website today and then classes got cancelled, so i started reading through some of the old pieces i saved and came across this one.... still brilliant. still one of my favorites.
crow... this piece makes me think of a summer day in my old apartment, laying next to my boyfriend, when we first got together. it is a happy memory of a place that's now not-so-happy. thanks for unknowingly taking me there again today!

it's weird sometimes when you come across stuff you've forgotten about

Damn good poem. I even liked the quote at the end: "It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to accept and tolerate those differences."
