What to use for sleep?

So I got prescribed Trazodone for sleep and it doesn't seem to be doing the trick. Sounds kind of strange to me since I have heard so many people say it will knock you out within like a half hour. Next time I go to the doctor I want to try something else so I don't have to keep taking benadryl every night. Since I have anxiety would something like ativan help me sleep even if I do not take it every day? I am not sure if I can get prescribed a benzo yet for my anxiety and other issues yet though. Anything you guys recommend for sleep? I just started to take Prozac by the way for all my problems. Thanks.

maybe the prozac is preventing your sleep? are you doing any stimulating activities before bed? drinking anything with caffeine?

SSRI+ old tricyclic never worked more than a few nights for me. I take cymbalta and ambien.

I do find that taking 10-20mg zolipidem (ambien) every other night or so puts me in the mood for sleep.

Try taking that prozac in the morning. i think its rather activating like welbutrin. specially when you first start taking a ssri.

Like mgmt said watch what you do several hours before bed. atleast drink something caffeine free.

Fluoxetine (Prozac) is an SSRI and many drugs of this family do cause insomnia. In fact, in clinical trials, Prozac caused insomnia (19% vs 10% for placebo). So the Prozac could be why you are having trouble sleeping. SSRI's are also known to cause anxiety at the beginning of treatment.

I think you should talk to your doctor and explain to him/her that you are having difficulty sleeping or you're waking up too many times during the night, etc. and you are having anxiety issues to top it off. Also explain to him that the trazodone isn't working. He may just up your trazodone dose, or he may give you something else - I'd say he would likely give you a z-drug (zopiclone, zolpidem, eszopiclone, etc) and if he takes your anxiety into consideration, he may even prescribe you a benzo. It would likely be something like diazepam, lorazepam, or alprazolam (low dosages: 5 mg, 0.5-1 mg, 0.25-0.5 mg, respectively).

I can't recommend something for you, but I can say that most doctors know what they are doing and he/she will do what he believes is right for you based on your record.
