Hey everyone,
I'm heading up north to Glasgow tomorrow until Sunday, I have family-in-law up there and a newly born god daughter!!:D
Having friends and family there iv been up a few times, had some good nights out in Glasgow, seen some amazing scenery etc..
However, the 3 friends I'm going with have never been.
So, Im asking anyone who knows the Glasgow side of Scotland (I think Hamilton is their nearest train station), what should we do for a few days?
Obviously a few days will be spent chilling with family, but for the rest of our time there I want them to see the nice side of Scotland, any suggestions on things to do are appreciated.

Go to the Hamilton Palace. You'll have a cracking night.

Edit - By that I mean you'll probably get cracked.

Well you could buy some old tatty skateboards, remove the wheels and trucks, and gaffa tape your feet to the board, then you got makeshift snowboard?

I don't know if that would work (and you might be tad loco to pull it off) but it would make you tube gold if it has not already been pulled off.

I've seen someone snowboard a skateboard deck before. A few times actually. Got a few mates who used to be mad into skateboarding, had mini sponsorship deals etc. They never thought about taping the board to their feet though.

I used a sledge as a snowboard a couple of years ago. Still got the scar & ten screws holding my shoulder together to prove it.

Well yeah, if you have experience in snowboarding, why not use gaffa tape. Course do it at your own risk...

Got a few scars myself, the worst was a failed ollie going to fast, i bailed and fell on side of jagged brick. now got permanent scar under chin (which is kinda shit, not as intense as screws holding shoulder together through) :O

I suppose you could always go look at the castle, buy some tourist shite & listen to cunts play bagpipes in Edinburgh...

Or go out in Glasgow & actually go to something good.

Nothing spectacular on next weekend right enough. You can't really go wrong with Subculture at Sub Club on the Saturday night, or any of these nights would be decent as well.

Saturday - http://www.list.co.uk/event/243027-luska/ (Sian booked as the guest DJ)

All good, small venues. Depends what you're into though, I'm looking at this from a house/techno point of view.

In all seriousness though, do not I mean DO NOT go to the Hamilton Palace lol. The only reason ever to go to Hamilton is to get a train the fuck out of there.

Brilliant. Almost immediately after posting, I got a phone call offering me a job in Glasgow.

Irony, I love thee.

PS. PTCH, how easy is it to get to The Forge from Glasgow Central station?

what i liked most about my visit in scotland was always liked to nature... lochs and hills and whatnot. thats what i would do if i had good weather.
if not, theres some really nice pubs and places of the sort in glasgow. ive found the smaller ones to be awy friendlier than the big.

enjoy your time out man!

Off the top of my head I couldn't tell you how to. I would never be going to The Forge, it's a shitehole. It'll be pretty easy though.

Eat a few handfuls of diazepam and go on a crime spree

Good advice, if you want to truly experience the local culture.

I'd probably just spend the weekend in Glasgow pubs - unless there are any decent gigs/clubs on. Split it into west end, city centre and Merchant city area. Also probably is worth going to Edinburgh for a day - I was showing an American friend round last year and, much to my disappointment, she far preferred Edinburgh to Glasgow. :X =D

^ The key word in that last sentence being "American".

Merchant City is good. If you're going out in the city centre avoid Sauchiehall Street like the plague, parallel to that is Bath Street, decent boozers there - Butterfly & Pig, Slouch etc. Slouch is a good shout, does decent cheap scran as well.

I'm not a fan of the west end. There's a few decent pubs round there but folk will tell you to go to Ashton Lane. Don't. It's shite & over-priced. Full of cunts wearing scarfs indoors. The west end is wear you'll see cunts that couldn't get away with cutting about the rest of Glasgow. I've seen a guy cycling to work, wearing a suit, on a fucking unicycle in the west end as if that was OK. If you did that in the southside you'd get stabbed off a 12 year old & the southside's actually no bad lol.

Sit in a bar drinking single malt, cheering on Germany with the locals as they play England during euro 2000. Well that's what I did anyway.

What's a scarf? I was held together by bandages after playing on a frozen pitch. Probably shouldn't have been drinking with the concussion I had
