Alright my wife and i had the 75mg patch did fine now we got the less dose 50mg with gel im ok but my wife's heart beat is rapid and is having nightmares why is it that when she does the 75 shes ok and the gel is causing issues any advice we just use it on our skin we dont eat it chew smoke it or slam it

i looked up like the side effects and it said rapid heart beat other stuff seek medical help so it tripped me out but she feels better now i dont she was freaking me out and she doesnt have a high tollerance to opiates like me but been on them quite awhile too

Yeah, when you lower your daily dose of opiates, you go into withdrawal. One of the main symptoms is rapid heartbeat/high BP due to a variety of things.

It's not necessarily definitely opioid withdrawal, rapid heartbeat and nightmares can be a side effect as well. Does she have any other symptoms?
And what time of day does she apply the patch, and when does she have these symptoms?

its a 72 hour had it on since fri no other symptoms well smll chills but shes in and out of the house to smoke

Is she having the rapid heartbeat constantly? How bad is it? Is it getting worse? Better?

Switching from long-term use of 75mg/hr patch to a 50mg/hr patch could cause some (relatively "mild") withdrawal symptoms until the body adjusts, as it's used to getting more fentanyl than it is now. Rapid heart rate, chills and nightmares are are common with withdrawal.

Other common withdrawal symptoms are nausea, diarrhea, yawning a lot (with the eyes tearing up), runny nose, aches and pains, feeling unusually cold, sweating, trouble sleeping, goosebumps (at times when you wouldn't normally get them), and feeling depressed or anxious.

Rapid heartbeat is also a known side effect of fentanyl, but since she just lowered her dose I am inclined to agree with crashing that it is most likely a withdrawal symptom.

Are you wondering what she can do about it?

this was my first thought as well. they're common side effects when lowering your dose while stabilising on the lesser dose.

That's interesting, if it were just withdrawal symptoms it should be the other way around, she would have more difficulties when she wasn't wearing the patch. So this makes me think it may be side effects, like perhaps something is different about this patch and more fentanyl is actually getting absorbed or something. She should talk to her doctor if her problems don't improve.
