Let it be two years after the apocalypse. The strong have survived, those with conviction are doing what it takes to survive. After all, the sun still shines every morning, the rules of nature are all still the same. Those who have survived share an unspoken appreciation for the reconnecting with the natural world. It has worked out for them. Unlike most people who, for one reason or another, have given up and their lives cut short by tragedy, the select few are almost thankful that mankind decided to ruin itself. And yet life is hard, there's no doubt about this fact. The people are scarce, many of them survive on their own.
Life is now primitive. He walks alone most days, occasionally seeing another person caught up in his or her own struggle. The people who tried to survive in packs ended up undoing their strength because they could not let go of their pasts, so again we state that the survivors have done so on their own accord. And yet today he's out to collect the morning water and he sees her standing against the creek. The warm sun against his back, he crosses to the end of the meadow to get a closer look. It's interesting, as he's never seen anyone else at this particular oasis this early. Where did she come from? Who is she? She looks good. He wonders if she was once a banker? A teacher? A social worker? No! Must not think of such things! She's a human being surviving. She has the same job as all of us now.
The complicated psychological perversions collected across thirty-two years of reacting to an ill society evaporate up and out of his mind and biology takes over. The passions of Nature reclaim his heart. So elegantly simple, he holds eye-contact with her as they both realise that they are going through the same psychological purification. They are both staring a appealing animal opposite to them, an animal that has an immediate physical affect on them. Their communication non-verbal, he takes a step toward her and extends his hand to brush against her cheek. That initial connection, feeling the flush of her cheek.
Let the passion take over completely, the chirping of the birds, blowing of the winds, and the sound of flowing water all drowns out their reflections upon a past life in complicated society and they are taken over by the ultimate experience, the ultimate sober trip, the most natural feeling two people can experience.
