what separates the animals from you?

ive thought about this for many years and today inside the elevator it struck me that animals rarely dance. sure they dance to awake lust in the other sex, but do any animal dance for fun?

also the thing about suicide is kind of rare amongst animals, though ive heard ducks can dive down the bottom of a lake a grab the grass with its teeths and wait till they drown.

can you tell me what separates them from us? :\

There's a certain level of reasoning that no other living animal (we know of) besides humans have achieved.

If animals had the same level of reasoning as us (hey we're animals too) they would have developed some form of complex culture, attempted to communicate with other species, or invented more complex tools. The closest thing we have is an ape or a chimp.

This is too deep for us in SO ;) I think it might be more suited to Thought and Awareness ->

social technology- including symbols, schemas, long term autobiographical self, and spiritual materials such as this computer

Depends on which animal you are talking about.

I have alot more in common with a horse or a dolphin then I do with a lizard or worm.

The big difference between people and anything else is our ability to behave however we choose.

Sure, our emotional impulses usualy get the better of us and we start screaming like chimpanzees, but one thing chimps cant do is behave like a gentleman at a classy ball.

When animals dont have to worry about predators or hunting, they sometimes do the unnatural (unusual) as seen by monkeys masturbating in zoos.
I think human thought and understanding is this process evolving exponentially. whether it was our opposable digits or our upright stance, something led to an advantage or situation that meant that we had much more free time to deal with. Through this time, our consciousness grew.

Makes sence to me.

animals dont wipe their butts

You never seen a dog drag his arse across the ground? You never seen a dog or a cat lick it's own arse?

I have.

Humans are one of the other animals...no other animals are human. Animals have no greater power than that of elementry problem solving, instinct and their foresight in most cases is limited to that which directly affects them.

We show soooo much more emotion than any other animal, we can decifer things alien, understand things natural and freely give this wisdom to others. We setup advanced methods of swapping goods and services. We can split something dead in half in reason of fairness. We are the only animal that attempts first contact to bond with any animal that we can mimic. We have a yearning for more than this world and some have claimed to know about the next or other world.

We have the greatest examples of kindness, generousity, beautiful artwork and the highest love. We have the worst examples of greed, desire for power, homicidal tendancies and we have "Ya Shizer" films.

Somedays I would love to be an animal hunter/gatherer predator/prey....most days I thank God that I am not.

I am human, hear me roar.

for one, i dont think animals can hate. people do it a lot though.

Oooohh, I've seen some very angry dogs in my time, and if the reason they are angry is because of human mistreatment then I am sure that they have a lot of hatred in their hearts.

nah sorry, u are all wrong... the difference between animals and humans is that humans are insane, whereas animals truly follow their nature.

juest think... isn't that insane? you don't need thought... thought is irrelevant to your survival... you are insane for thinking in the first place... if you had f just reacted...

now think of the examples where this holds true, versus the times when thinking actually helped you (and i mean taught you, not allowed you to be taught)

the reasons animals never developed tools is most of them don't have the hands they need to do it.... although you will see birds build houses out of anything they can find, use sticks to dig insects out of hollow trees, etc.
They communicate just fine as far as i can tell. they have family structure, and flock together in groups.

similarly, pack animals such as wolves. . they have complex social structures with leaders, etc.
