What med would usually be first prescribed for insomnia/anxiety?

IYE, what med do u think drs usually presribe first for insomnia/anxiety?

I've been prescribed antipychotics which I think is a bit strange because Im not experiencing any psychotic symptoms.

I know alot of drs dont like prescibing benzos cuz of addiction issues.

So what do they usually prescribe first?
 
Temazepam, stilnox/zolpidem tartrate and imovane/zopiclone are all likely culprits for a first prescribed hypnotic.

I presume when you say you were prescribed anti psychotics you are referring to seroquel, probably 25mg pills? While seroquel is an antipsychotic it is also a sedative and it can be used as a sleeping tablet sometimes.

I have mentioned it to a couple of doctors and always get funny looks asking for seroquel but a few people I know have been put on it for insomnia.
 
5mg Zyprexa (olanzepine) I've been prescirbed.
or I can take mirtazepine.

I used to be prescibed 10mg temazepam/night.
but it does practically nothing at 10mg.

So most drs would usually prescribe temazepam before anything else?

I thought drs usually liked to avoid prescribing benzos
 
It depends on the doctor and also how you address your insomnia/anxiety issues. Stilnox/Temaze/Deptran are the main contenders.
 
Depends on the situation, i.e. how long you're planning to take it for, whether they think you're likely to abuse it or get addicted, any comorbidities (especially anxiety), etc.

I've seen several doctors over the years and always got temaze first.
 
Weird that they'd prescribe anti-psychotics for anxiety, although it's quite common for sleep.
 
^^ yeah a little weird. but it certainly fixes insomnia better than benzos.

Is it common for ppl to be prescibed Stilnox (Ambian) here.
pharmacist was telling me they it's just as addictive as benzos.

Id take the Temazepam for sleep but they only come in 25 packs. & the prescribed 10mg isnt going to make me tired.

it's weird how xanax comes in 2mg but vals & temaze only come in 5mg/10mg when xanax is more addicitive.
 
Stilnox, imovane, temazepam, deptran. I have one doctor who favours valium (bless her)

Has anyone ever been refused stilnox or zopliclone? I went to the doctor about a chest infection and asked for some stilnox because I wasn't sleeping well and he said no! I was shocked. this clinic is normally pretty happy to prescribe that. he saw the previous drug use history, and the benzo abuse stuff on his screen, and told me he wouldn't give it to me because it is addictive. benzos I can understand, but stilnox?!? Was pretty annoyed about this.
