What kind of threads do you want to see stay here, and what kind should be moved?

Okay, I need your help again ADD.

I'm kind of conflicted about what ADD is all about, and I don't want to be a facist mod and just stick everything here or there.

Things I like:
-Substantiated threads with references or at least some visage that the person has done research and knows what they're talking about.
-Novel extraction threads.
-Bioassay threads about unique substances, including synthetics and botanics.
-Threads about chemical analysis of substances.
-Threads that maybe cannot be answered in other forums so their mods send them to us.

Things I don't like:
-People drawing random structures and asking people who are well read whether or not they do anything.
-Things that are not ADD like "What kind of pills are these?"
-Simple questions that can be answered in the big questions thread.
-Threads about simple, well-known extractions that can be addressed via TFSE, Google or dedicated forums (eg the common mimosa teks).

Bioassays really belong in the trip reports subforum, no? They don't really belong here, do they? They have a good system for classification and searching there, and IIRC, they end up in erowid from there, too, no?

I would like to see the recent crop of "I did this in wikipedia, what do you think" and "I found this in wikipedia, what do you think?" threads to get chopped. Or screwed, I really don't have a preference :)

To tell you the truth, I don't give a shit where they get put as long as they stay matey.

Often the unique substances are put into ADD because they aren't properly understood by trip report readers, who come in look of "LOLZ ZOMG TEH PILLS MADE MY EYES WObbLE!!" and, as such, the ensuing discussion often suffers.

BUT.. that is irrelevant.. just keep them please. Hammilton will then request to do the bureaucratic work afterward, as it seems to be one of his hobbies. You must make him 'beg' before he is allowed this privileged, to teach him some humility.

God, you're such an asshole.

You guys say my name a lot. A lot, a lot actually. Interesting thing is, that I don't care about you at all. I don't mean this in the sense that you could die and I wouldn't care. I would. Same with everyone else, but you take everything so personally.

I wouldn't care if it was God posting these "look... wikipedia..." threads. I'd feel the same way. It could be anyone else here, I'd say the same things. I don't think they belong here.

It has nothing to do with tact or being nice or anything. Give a countering opinion, fine, whatever, our votes will balance eachother out. I can live with that. I'm not going to change my opinion just to make you feel better though.

To tell you the truth, I don't give a shit where they get put as long as they stay matey.

Trip reports aren't being cleared out are they? That'd be a major loss! None of those should go, at least not until they're archived at erowid or rejected by erowid (and many will be).

I have more than enough work to do as it is, I sure as hell won't be requesting more.

teach him some humility

Better men have tried! Good luck though! :)

I think everyone needs to relax and just admit that Ham is a douchebag and not worry about it. I mean, that is how I feel but really whatever, that's okay, sometimes he makes good points and other times he's incredibly insulting and abusive. Because he's a really proactive contributer, I don't really want him banned or anything. If you don't like him that much, just put him on ignore.

agreed. Also should you really have threads about OTC extractions and whatnot?

I was under the impression that they are being. Am I incorrect?

You would care if I died? Wow.. I actually thought you wouldn't That makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

My bad, noted.

I think we need to get that "Hammilton has Hep-C" rumour going again....

ROFL ... if only I were around when said rumour was circulating.. and if there never was such a rumour, props for the amusing comment. AIDS would do nicely also.

I just lurk here and only understand a fraction of what is said in here so, for what it is worth, I think that ADD is nice the way it is. I think the addition of things like The Large and Nifty Not-quite-advanced Drug Chemistry, Pharmacology and More Thread is a really good idea. Great thread to merge other threads into. But if you're looking to implement strict rules what would you do with OP's like THIS? Hardly an advanced OP but I consider that thread a gem. To me it seems like you have to take most things on a case by case basis.

The only ADD pet peeve that I have is when someone comes on here thinking about a chemical that was invented a week ago and some vendor started selling asking "What is it? Who's done it? How much should I do?" But even then, you might just get another gem out of it like the mephedrone thread.

I dont see why people are ragging on Hamjam. Thread is what do you like/dont like in ADD. He said Wiki-crap... and RnR had a hissyfit. Irregardless of whether you guys agree with Ham's suggestion or not, he stayed on topic. And he usually does. He insults ideas he thinks are stupid (and usually, though I don't bother calling people on it... I agree they're damn near retarded). If you guys can stop stroking your egos and acting with pure emotional/ego-preserving reactionary nonsense, things could go much smoother.

Just recognize that he doesn't always take the time to bother explaining in a personable manner why he thinks an idea is not sensible, and just points out for EVERYONE else (other than the original poster) that the idea useless and should be ignored, since many can't figure that out themselves. Suck it up (RnR, White guys with Kanji names because they are going through an 'Asian cultures are sooo awesome', etc). You guys would really benefit from sitting in on some classes from an undergrad Neuro program. A large number of your threads are based on severe misunderstandings/assumptions without basis, and thats why Ham pokes fun (and so many don't bother contributing).

Hope I didn't hurt anyone's feelings. (Oh and before someone decides to point out my username w.r.t. the stuck-in-adolescence-Asian username thing... mine is my ACTUAL non-english name)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for the original topic, I think that (due to the extreme number of crappy ones) people gloss over threads with novel structural suggestions. Sometimes these have merit (interesting means of creating a structure with the same steric/space-filling properties and binding domains... which, for example could challenge generalizations like the morphine rule, simple models of the 5-HT2A binding... or follow trends w.r.t. whats known about signal-directed trafficking... etc).

Also, I think that distinguishing between a trip report (... 'and then I put on Pink Floyd'), and important information from a bioassay (interference with proprioception, vestibular sense, vertical nystagmus suggesting NMDA) can help keep 'appropriate' what gets posted in either forum.

I also REALLY want to put together a primer on the effect of structural areas (and their specific nuclei) on an appropriate understanding of neuropharmacology for ADD, as I think it would help everyone both extend the breadth AND sensibility of their fun lil' speculations.

I merged it.

But everyone knows the dorsal raphe nuclei controls happiness, while the nucleus raphe pallidus allows us to ride bikes.

In short, nuke's take is spot on.
I would say that if a thread doesn't get responses in OD or PD, or wherever, it belongs here.
The merged 'not quite advanced drug questions' thread was also a great idea, for people with my level of knowledge (ie, laypeople) can pose questions without great danger of contributing too much clutter.

I would LOVE a suboxone extraction/neutralizing thread. I remember seeing one but everyone was shouting "it can't be done!" from the rooftops.

a lot of the things in ADD are diffcult to understand but trying to learn from something you dont understand is more satisfying than something you know already for the most part.

as it is the use of references is good but unless you have been formally educated in these areas then it can be difficult to make sense fully of what the abstracts mean. to say that questions need to be backed up by specific references would hugely limit the freedom to ask questions about novel ideas that many people who use this forum to expand their thoughts have.

show me a reference for a study on 4methyl-methcathinone (i dont know there might acctually be one...)

Oh...and we don't need the prolific "How can I take a classical stimulant everyday and be just fine?" threads that we used to a while back. Maybe everyone crashed in the interim. ;)
