What is the point of life?

What is the point of life, when there is no ultimate goal?

I understand that religious people all have a goal in life, right?, going to heaven, enlightenment, blah blah blah. Others have the goals of getting married and starting a family to carry on there heritage and what not.

But for an atheist, like myself, is there any preset goal to life?

I believe it is fairly obvious that complete understanding of ones conciousness is a goal, but it is fairly unrealistic...

Anyway, maybe my eyes are closed today... Either way, can someone give me a meaningful goal in life... (other than something I could work towards, or achieve) The natural goal of life.:|

The point of life is suffering, which is a lot better than it seems.

I agree, I also have no religious beliefs. Just make your goal to see and do as much as possible, to be as happy as possible, and to have as much fun as you can. I mean what more is there to live for besides your personal enjoyment. to die being able to say you were happy as often as possible and experienced as much as possible. good or bad just file it away into your mind as another experience. my goal is not to be rich or famous but to have fun.
fun and love is all that matters, and if you dont find love just have fun. see it all, to remember it later.
am i wrong?

I think you hit the nail on the head there. I live, because I am consumed within a loving and caring relationship. I live to be with that certain someone. She is my happiness, and my fun. So i'll take this as, live for human relations and for your own personal sheer enjoyment.

the point of life is to live....
If you spend it trying to work out what the point of it is... I think you have missed the point.

I often like to think to myself...
What choice do I have besides life? The answer is non-life.

When the only other option to living your life is not doing so... what option do you really have but to make the best of it. Life is not the question...It is the answer.

It's a fairly well known concept that the point of life is living, that is a given. What is the point of existing without cause or a goal? That was the question.

There isn't any point, that's the point.

I had this thought while on LSD once. The point of life is to live, and not give in to your fears that come from within you.

Stop trying to work it out though, and enjoy life as much as possible.

The point of life is to experience fear and the suffering that comes from it, then to experience love after we have conqured those fears. I think that to what acid is to us life is to GOD, because we are chooseing to be here now. The point of life is to live but the ultimate goal is to love in hope to become united as one.

/rings up God
"yeh, erm... what's the point in life?"

God: "Dunno man, just get high and think about it tomorrow :\ "

Hahaahaha, but God is meant to know everything I thought? ;)

The happiness of others, perhaps?

The point of life is suffering, which is a lot better than it seems.

That's not a bad starting point in attempting to answer the question (and I'm pretty sure the Buddha would agree). ;)

There's no inherent point of life, only what you make it to be. You have to set your own goals, no one can tell you what the goal of your life is.

i meant that the point of life is nothing more than experience...
you are born...you experience... you die
we cannot be sure what came before or comes after.... all we can be sure of is now, so enjoy it
