Why do most people experience similar visual patterning based on substance?

What causes the differences in visuals between different substances? (Phenethylamines, Tryptamines, Dissociatives, etc.)

I have been trying to find scientific explanations for these questions for a long time. If this is not Advanced Drug Discussion material please move/destroy this post.

Thanks

Well 5-HT2A activation among other receptors, but it's not really understood how these receptors contribute to hallucinations.
Anyways on the topic of the actual visuals, I read this article a while back about some math that was done that actually kind of explained why geometric patterns are often seen on psychedelics. I'll Try to dig it up and post it.

As for why some psychedelics have different visuals than others, this is most likely because of their different pharmacological action. NMDA antagonistic, 5-HTxx agonistic, Dopamine agonists, kappa OR agonists, etc, are all associated with hallucinations/psychedelia, and the different psychedelics target different receptors. For example, LSD binds to dopamine and serotonin receptors (among others), while salvinorin A (Active compound in salvia) binds to the Kappa OR (among others).

Hope this helped a bit.

SNR that signal flow poster was one of the most interesting reads ive had on psychs in a long time and really puts the "trip" into perspective of whats Really going on in the brain.

I tend to agree with the feedback theory..Signal theory I think its called? Just because its the only way I can relate to the way jimi hendrix's amplifier feels when SOO MUCH FEEDBACK is going through it. IT's exactly what my head feels like when an acid trip is doin its thing. Ohh say can you seeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaoooooooaaaaaeeeeeeWAHHHHH WAHHHHHHH WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WwwwwwwwwWWWaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAHHHhhh
